I just got a new computer that has Windows 11. I have Roots 10 on my old computer. Should I upgrade to 11? How do I copy everything over to my new computer and not loose or duplicate anything?
I think it’s a good idea to upgrade to RM11, but not because you have a new computer. It’s simply because RM11 has a significant number of new features as compared to RM10.
To install RM on your new computer, you need to do three things.
- Install RM on your new computer. You can install either RM10 or RM11. If you install RM10, you will need to download it from the RM Web site and enable it with the same product key you already have. If you install RM11, you will need to purchase a new product key, download it from the RM Web site, and enable it with the new product key you purchased.
- Copy your RM database from the old computer to the new computer. Most typically, you might do this by copying the database from the old computer to a removable device like a removable disk drive or a USB flash drive, then copying the database from the removable device to the new computer.
- Copy your RM media files from the old computer to the new computer. Most typically, you would do this the same way you would copy your RM database.
I would hold off upgrading to v11 since RM usually has a special price before the holidays.
Make a folder on a USB or external drive and copy your existing RM database to it. On new pc just copy that folder to it and change settings>Folder in RM to point to it.
Remember to do the same with your media ![]()

Good tip – one is almost guaranteed a better price between now and New Years.
