Good morning all,
I have been using Linux Mint on a stand-alone PC progressively over the past few months and have decided to transition Roots Magic 9 to run exclusively in Mint using Wine before I install RM10 along with other Windows based software programs; with the aim of switching exclusively to open source and finally closing down and decommissioning Windows (11) forever.
The transition has been very successful with all other Windows software I have installed running seamlessly on Mint.
RM9 has been running but lately has begun posting an error message everytime I move from one process to another in RM9 (eg. from persons to media in the home screen) as that attached signifying there is an sqlite problem. (screeshot attached).
I have zero knowledge about programming or sqlite.
A web-search suggested installing sqlit3 again to correct this error message, but, unfortunately that did not work.
Can anyone help/direct me solve/fix this error message in RM9 before I upgrade and install RM10 to Mint.
The SQLite 10 error is a “disk I/O error”, which could be a couple of things.
-
You could have a corrupt database. Go to File>Tools>Database Tools and run all options there in consecutive order after a fresh restart of RM.
-
You could have a program which is locking the RM database keeping RM from being able to access it. This is usually a program which runs in the background and does things like indexing, or backing up of files. Check if you have a program running in the background which may be accessing RM’s data files while RM is using them. Make sure database is not inside a folder syncing to cloud storage like Dropbox, iCloud or OneDrive.

It could be an indication there is an issue with your operating system or hard drive. It could indicate your hard drive is failing and is working in a bad sector. You would want your computer specialist to test the hard drive. Or it could simple be that RM is not supported on Linux.
Could it possibly be related to Media? Try restarting RM and navigate those left menus EXCEPT to the Media tab… does the error occur, then? If it just the Media tab, perhaps it has to do with the Settings>Folder Settings>Media folder read/write or ownership (Linux) permissions.
Thank you Food for Thought… I will tick off each alternative as I go. Great information.
Thank you. I will do as you suggest and work through each. Until I find the culprit I will research all of the possible causes. I am very much looking forward to the journey.
Just curious: Which version of Mint are you using, and which version of Wine?
My apologies for the time lag. I am currently using Mint Cinnamon Virginia 21.3 but I am going to go up to Version 22 Wilma in the New Year.
I am using Winetricks which works very well. Most of my Windows software installs have not missed a beat I still use Windows 11 but in the New Year I will slowly progress over to the new version of Mint and spend 90 percent of my time on Mint.
Most of my software is still Windows based. I really don’t think there is a need for Crossover but Linux is becoming more popular, some of the big Companies and even Countries are swinging over to open-source in Schools and Governments.
“In recent years, several European nations, including Switzerland, Germany, France, and broader EU member states, have increasingly embraced Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) as a strategic move to enhance digital sovereignty, security, and innovation”.
I would say that the MS Monopoly is doomed.
OK, thanks, and what version number is Wine itself? I’m asking, because I had rendering problems with all versions newer than 7, and the wine hq are working on 10 now.
I’m still running RM 9.1.1 here, because the newer versions can’t log on to FamilySearch in Wine, but maybe you don’t use the FS family tree, or you have found a way to make it work.
I’m using LMDE 6 here, which is based on Debian, not ubuntu, and just noticed that the Linux Mint team released a new beta for version 22.1, which will be known as Xia.
