FSID visible in Index

Is it possible to show the FSID in the index instead of the RIN?

If so, how?

you can show in people view grid / list (you need to customize the view)

Settings -type of # to show–FSID

I do it the same way as kevync1985

Doing it via Tools > General Settings > Number to display > FSID works for the Info Area at the top of the sidebar, but it doesn’t work for the Index in the sidebar which I think is what you are after. The Index in the sidebar always shows the RIN.

Back to the way kevync1985 does it which is to make a column for the FSID in People List View: I actually use People List View a great deal more in RM10 than I did in RM7. It has sort of become my “index”. In RM10, I mostly go back and forth between People List View and Descendant View, with Descendant View set either to 2 generations or 3 generations. Then I typically have my sidebar set to the Family tab rather than to the Index tab. That is my workaround for RM10 to deal with the fact that RM10’s Family View and Pedigree View show so much less information than they did in RM7.

I just went into the people view to look at the table for my database. There is no column for FSID but since I have matched my entire database to FamilySearch, I am guessing the program may have imported the FSID. If so, how do I get it to show in the grid? I do not want to replace the RIN number, just add a column for FSID.

Within the header of the People List view. The RM7 version has a Customize this view button (top left). RM 10 labels the button (top right) Customize.

Go to Family List view and click the Customize button.

Then, highlight Family Search ID and click the Add to View button. There is no search box. You just have to scroll until you find Family Search ID. You can move it up or down the list to move the column left or right on the page. My experience is that RM doesn’t remember column widths in Family List View. Remembering the widths needs to be an enhancement request. So any time I change the columns at all, I have re-adjust all the column widths.

Thanks for the responses. had never looked at the people view in either RM7 or RM10. I had wondered why Renee had referenced the FSID number in a post for another thread. I had no idea that matching with FamilySearch meant the FSID was imported to my database and could be found in the people view. Always something new to learn!

adding there are many ways to customize the people list view grid. One might think of it as a customizable report view. I do wish you could have saved views to quickly switch between them.

Yes, yes, yes!

Also, the results from an Advanced Search uses the current (and only) settings from People List View. I don’t understand why there should be any connection between the two. Advanced Search should have its own settings for the columns.

My biggest complaint right now is that adding or deleting a column loses the current width settings for the other columns. But saved column settings so you could quickly switch between them would be even better.

If I could get even more grandiose in my wishes, it would make sense to me to be able to do an Advanced Search and to be able to make that search into a rules group directly from that screen in addition to being able to make it into a Saved Search.

not sure I fully understand what you mean?

Suppose you set up the columns for People List View the way you want them for People List view and then do an Advanced Search. The columns for an Advanced Search are then the same as they were for People List View. I don’t understand why there should be any connection between the columns in People List view and the columns in an Advanced Search.

Gotcha – yeah not by default anyways – but I guess its just essentially use the most review view/setting. This actually give more need for a selectable/configurable view setting for columns .

Thank you! I had not used this view but thanks to you and Jerry, I now have it set up so I can see the ID and the RIN!

agreed – I always want to see RIN, FSID, with same basic info – the other stuff may vary
