There is an annoying new feature in the RootsMagic forum software. I’m wondering if there is a way to turn it off. I looked at the options and didn’t see such an option. Namely, I now always have one Unread item even if I have read everything.
No it’s been around for quite a while-- sometimes it is because there is a message on one of the other forums or an update notice BUT most times -it’s as Jerry says-- doesn’t show up every day
Well, my experience is that when a user is “within” any particular post, the forum software “informs” the logged-in user, at the very bottom of the post’s page, about which specific one(s), if any, unread posts that it believes they haven’t read. It not only shows a second reminder that there is 1 unread topic, but also shows the “bolded” direct link to it, under the little underlined heading named Suggested:
I have been trying to decide if this has happened to me. I tend to use the Back button on my browser after reading a post and I think that I may have seen an erroneous “Unread” notice from time to time but it’s never persisted after a browser refresh. Could it be that there is some sequence where the “Unread” notice isn’t being refreshed or do you have a perpetual unread flag?
I have the same problem of the ever present Unread (1). I also use the back button when in the forum. I just tried refreshing my browser and the Unread (1) is still there. Even if you open it to read that you have no unread items, it stays as Unread (1)
I never use the Back button in the forum. After reading an item, I will click on “RootsMagic” in the upper left. That puts me back where I started with the Unread or New count reduced by one, whichever one I just finished reading.
This hasn’t happened to me and I look most every day. In the RM ‘app’ on my taskbar (I don’t go in through my browser directly) I either right click the white space to the side of the posts and select ‘back’ from the pop-up (although Alt-left arrow also works on Windows). As I use the ‘app’ the top of my window is, therefore, different to that of @kbens0n & @thejerrybryan . As was mentioned earlier I wonder whether this is a browser cache issue?
I think the forum software used by RM is also used by others (I think Wyze and some others). Not sure if cookies or browser etc would have to do with that
The annoying new feature is gone today for the first time in several days. I took no action to make it go away such as clearing browser cache. It just went away on its own. I’m pleased.
