Viewing RM11 database on iPad

I have the RootsMagic app on my iPad - just reinstalled to be sure I had latest version. It does not recognize files with “rmtree”. Could never get it to view using RM10 but it would view the earlier versions with the old designation. Is there anyway to fix this problem so I can view the current version???

You MUST USE File>Export Data>Dropbox

[See HELP](Saving a database to Dropbox (for Apps)

Thanks BobC- got it!

This is an old app from 2015 and is read only. The free ancestry app is kept current and allows editing your various trees on ancestry.

I cannot get my file to be recognized on my devices. I have exported it to Dropbox and it appears there on my iphone and ipad. But, when I try to load it, the mobile RM app crashes. In fact, it crashes immediately when I press any button ….File, Views, List, etc. I did just download the mobile app from the App Store. I’ve even tried to launch it directly from Dropbox on my devices by clicking on the file but get the message: Cannot load file. There was an error loading the file.
Anyone have any suggestions? This is the one, big problem that will keep me from moving to RM full time, which I’d like to do.

The app has been broken on Android for a long time. It is inevitable that it will eventually break on iOS. It is not supported and there is no hope at this time it will get fixed. You will be better off looking for something other than the RM app until such time as RM announces a new release.

I have just exported my RM-11 Database to DropBox and then loaded it on my iPad, it copied and loaded OK (Both from DropBox and locally on the iPad.) No issues seen, seems to work as it did before. Export was done from RM-11 under Windows 11 Pro and the iPad is running the latest version of ios (as of today)

Hmm. Well, evidently the Windows version works because, in my experience, the Mac version does not. I tried this before with RM 10, but it didn’t work then either. I’d be willing to pay for a mobile version, if it worked correctly!

Well, just worked fine for this Mac user on RM11 and previously had no trouble on RM10 (and before, though memory fades).

There is no Windows version. The app is either iOS or Android. Don’t mistake the app as RM. They are two seperate monsters. The Android version is no longer functional. Its demise being blamed on Dropbox changes. iOS version may or may not continue working and it seems to be getting sketchier as time goes on.

Run the Database Tools under File, Tools before using File, Export Data, Dropbox. Also add the Dropbox app to your iOS device. Sometimes, having the app on the device helps even though its necessary.
