When using Tree Share in RM 10, I get the list of the people who are changed. I have to scroll down the list to find individuals who aren’t on the Ancestry tree and then click the Add button to add them. The list then scrolls all the way back to the beginning of the alphabet so I have to scroll multiple times to find the next person who’s missing from Ancestry.
Two questions. Is there a way to have the new RM people added to Ancestry automatically rather than updating them one at a time? When updating individuals in Tree Share, is there any way to have the list return to the person that was just updated rather than the beginning of the alphabet so that I don’t have to scroll so far to find the next one that’s not on Ancestry?
After you have added all the ones you want to add to Ancestry, assuming you don’t want to do anything to the remainder, go into Tree Share again, click ‘options’ and then 'clear everyone from “changed” list. You shouldn’t see them next time you open it. the only other way is to use the name search box which, I would imagine, takes longer than scrolling.
No, that’s the way it works.
BUT if you don’t check the box for Changed and just use the list it doesn’t go back to first in list.
Great if you don’t have a large database but if you do, use the Changed.
That’s the rub. Scrolling to find the ones that aren’t on Ancestry when my database contains 10,000 people is the problem. If I’ve missed something in your suggestion I apologize, but I’m looking for a way to add all the people that are missing. My main tree is on RM. I upload to Ancestry more as a gift of hints to others by making my tree publicly available.
What some users do is upload a new tree 2-3 or times a year.
That does not sound like something that would work for you .
You could great a group that might help narrow this down. You could then filter that group on the ANC tree share then add them from there – using the RMID – the highest #s would be the newest and/or you could use edit date.
The Tree Share list filter has an option: “only show changed people”.
It would be very helpful to enhance this single option to a list of options such as:
Only show:
changed people
unmatched people
unmatched RM people
unmatched Ancestry people
matched people
I think the choice for RML would be unmatched RM people.
My case where my RM has 15000 people and Ancestry has 50000 people, I want the unmatched Ancestry people.
And I always want the list to return to the point of last update.
Note you have good suggestions – my point for now is that there is a dropdown box to select a group you could create a group using any advanced criteria you can come up with for a work a round in meantime - that would “restrict the list of people” to work off of
I agree. What I’m looking for is the unmatched RootsMagic people. My current workaround is to put in the first letter or two of the surname. After I match someone and it takes me all the way back to the beginning of the alphabet, I add another letter or take a letter away from the search term and that brings me back to the general area where the unmatched people are.
That works! I’ll add that to my list of tricks. I don’t know if there are any other side effects of clearing the changed list, but for now that solved the problem. Thanks.
