The users have always had self-determination. It’s called moving on to another program.
If you’ve been a user of this forum for a while you will have noticed that many, many of the regular, helpful posters no longer post. I can only assume that they’ve moved on.
A few, like TomH, are still hanging on trying to fight the good fight.
Recent posts seem to have concentrated on TreeShare and mac Sonoma issues.
Mac users know that there are a lot fewer programs available for mac than for PC. It’s always been this way and they accepted this constraint when the bought into the mac world.
Maybe, because of their size, RM doesn’t have advance specs and versions of new mac OSes like major software developers do. That could be a constraint on their side, especially if they don’t have someone who is deep into mac internals.
So, I wonder if it is worth RM’s time and effort to try keeping a mac version viable when their time might be better spent fixing the widows version.
I also wonder how much time and effort I would spend trying to get RM functional on a mac when there are alternatives out there.
I was able to successfully make the change on RootsMagic 9.0.7 using Xcode, after I gave Xcode permission to change Applications in the Security and Privacy settings.
I also gave BBEdit permission to change Applications, and while I didn’t try it, I suspect that it too could make the required change?
We just released update 9.0.8. that fixes the resolution issue on RM9. Only the current version of our software is updated. For RM8 you will need to use the steps listed at top of the thread to find a resolution that works for you.
None of support agents would ever suggest using a RM8 key in RM9, you clearly must have misunderstood that. You can use the free version RootsMagic 9 Essentials without a key.
When RM9 was released, RM8 stopped being updated for any reason. This has been RM’s process for as long as I can recall. They stop offering updates upon the release of the next full version. For example, RM7 is forever stuck on number 7.7. There will never be a 7.7.1 or anything else.
I concur that it probably makes more sense to focus on a functional windows version which is where their expertise lies. Many of the best posters are gone and probably most potential mac users.
The mac issues are not due to limited access to advance…beta OS versions months before release. Such are widely available even to unwise individual users.
The mac market probably seemed an attractive target with so much future growth there especially after apple silicon trashed intel chips but mac users have little tolerance for less than stellar software. “Just works” is the expectation.
See my comment in this thread and other threads on this topic. I think the coding efforts posted in this thread may have triggered RootsMagic to look in the right places, because the latest release resolves this in all Mac OS versions - including the betas. Reset your display options to default after loading the latest RM release.
