The workaround to create a To-Go portable version of the RM8 application in the absence of the RootsMagic To-Go app itself is to copy the contents of the RootsMagic folder from the OS’s Programs|Applications folder to the removable drive. Currently, I’ve come across two issues on Win10:
- You cannot update the portable version from the portable version. It merely updates (or likely installs) the main version on the host computer. It is necessary to repeat the copying procedure to overwrite the old version.
- V8.1.1 introduces an upgrade of the internal web browser from Internet Explorer to Microsoft Edge. While it works on the system version, the portable does not, proffering an empty window for what is likely intended to be an error message.
