RM11 Rootsmagic to go seems much more difficult than the RM7 version that I am used to and really liked. I tried to install RM to go on a USB and all seemed to go well. When I selected the bat file a window appeared asking if I wanted to run the full or free version. Once it loaded it could not find the 3 databases that I had loaded. RM7 to go had its own app on my start page and was so easy to update. Not so sure about RM11 as I did not get that far.
RM To-Go can now be used in Essential mode where RM7 To-Go didn’t have that option. The database will be inside the RootsMagic-11\Data\ folder. After you have selected the file go to Settings and check “Open last database when starting RootsMagic”.
When creating the RM To-Go files and selecting databases its best to do that with the database closed. Then it won’t have a conflicting change date.
OK, thank you for that information. I will give it a try again.
All worked until I cliched on media, then I got an error: SQLite Error 10, disk i/o error. Can’t do anything, its frozen, cannot even close it. I had to use Task Manager to close it.
Run your database tools and then install RM11 To-Go again. Make sure all the program files and databases are removed from the USB drive first, so don’t write over them. If it fails check using a different flash drive.
I think I will go back to RM to go 7. RM11 is just not working. I did what you said and the next time I start it using the BAT file, it is unable to find the file. 7 is so much simpler and I need to keep 7 up to date so I can use RM on my iPad.
OK, taking a second look and determined to make this work.
I have it installed on a stick and I have a folder called Rootsmagic11 and a bat file launch RootsMagic 11 (windows).bat. I select the bat file and a window with 3 options appears, free version, full version, and unlock RootsMagic. I select free version and select open files and there are no Found Files. I browse for a file and discover my stick is not on the list to search. Is there a tutorial that takes one through all the steps to use the To Go feature?
Here is the help info on RM to go

also found this–not sure how much if anything has changed in 15 years BUT it MIGHT help also…
If You can browse the drive to run the .BAT file and You mention browsing “for a file”… any databases that were checkmarked and copied over at To-Go creation time are located in this folder path:
I will take a look. RM11 is really different from RM7 to go. Not sure which version the video covers.
My USB is no longer listed on my PC. It was removed by RM11 to go, at least it seems that way.
My screenshot is of the To-Go program file chooser in action. Maybe you should post a screen shot of what yours looks like?
Ok, I will try and see if I can duplicate your screenshot. Also, I am going to install RM11 To Go on another USB stick in case it is something with the particular stick.
I installed To Go on another stick and it appears to be working. Two more questions. How do I make the to go version know that I am using the paid version and how do I update the stick when I have made changes on my database.
Clicking the bottom option below will prompt you to enter the product registration that was sent via email for your RM11 purchase, which will make it the full, registered version
.
While running To-Go, any databases that You open and edit (add to / delete from) are updated right there on the stick.
Check out the RM11 Help for RootsMagic To-Go Step 3
KEEP IN MIND that You can press function key F1 from ANYWHERE in the RM program (including To-Go) and your browser will open a tab to “context-sensitive” HELP about the area of the program you are currently working in.
Thanks, there did seem to be a problem with the original USB stick. Seems to be working fine on the latest one I installed To Go on. Thanks for your patience. I sometimes get frustrated when stuff does not work as it is supposed to. There are times it is my own fault. Again I appreciate all those who answer questions on a daily basis.
