To update Ancestry via treeshare I always delete the existing ancestry tree, disconnect the tree in rootsmagic then treeshare to create a new tree. After the 10.0.2.0 Rootsmagic update all my data ends up in ancestry but all the individual people are individual people. There is no person to person linkages at all. I have reset treeshare but this has not helped.
That is not the way TreeShare is designed to work. That is the initial way to either put a RM database on Ancestry or to download Ancestry to RM.
Once you have done this step, you make changes to your database (either in RM or Ancestry or both) then you click on the Ancestry Icon on bottom left.
Now you will be able to see the changes and can move them accordingly.
This will keep your data in sync.
You can do it the way you did but now you’ve learned what happens when you delete the Ancestry tree. Once gone no way to recover it.
Doing it your way, I would just rename the Ancestry tree (add a date), disconnect & upload.
That may not be the way it was designed to work, but it is a perfectly valid way to use TreeShare. I have been using it that way since TreeShare became a thing. I believe @thejerrybryan also uses it that way, as do many others. However that methodology is moot! It is not the cause of the OP’s problem. There are other issues at work which may require them to send their file to RM for testing.
I agree that there are a number of different ways that TreeShare is designed to to be used. Periodically deleting your Ancestry tree and reloading from RM is only one of several such ways.
That being said, I just now ran a small test of a test RM database with two people who are a couple with a Marriage fact. I uploaded this small test database to Ancestry. The relationship and all facts were uploaded properly, including the Marriage fact.
At the risk of being obvious, my suggestion would be to try again. Delete the Ancestry tree and upload from RM again. There have been some Ancestry problems reported over the weekend. Perhaps my test worked because my test database was so small. Or perhaps my test worked because Ancestry’s reported problems over the weekend have been fixed.
I did say that doing it the OPs way is fine but now they are screwed having no accurate tree on Ancestry. Had they followed the TreeShare video …
Seems silly to add a person or make a few changes and then upload your entire database again - I might do it if I had a lot of changes.
Now they should run the Tools and then try to upload again and pray it works.
Make sure you reply to the OP with your suggestions on what they should do.
Actually, if you said that, it must have gotten deleted by the system because it wasn’t in your post that I responded to.
Point is that for those of us who use that methodology, it isn’t just a few people that we have added. In my case, it is done on a monthly basis. My tree is used as bait and for hints, so I don’t maintain my tree on Ancestry so I don’t need to go clickety-click to approve the changes.
As for the Ancestry issue, I have been getting popups from Ancestry that the connection timeout and it is followed by another box for me to elect to not receive further notifications from Ancestry. It doesn’t work and it still times out. I am guessing that the same timeouts are getting in the way of TreeSharing also.
Everything working fine today. The problem has gone away. Regarding using Treeshare for purposes that it is not designed for. I put a lot of time and effort into my data structures and accuracy of my Rootsmagic data. There is no way I am going to let a third party product modify that data. Sorry if that disappoints you MadDog.
I was just pointing out how the video demonstrates the use of TreeShare.
As I said, You can do it the way you did.
Glad to hear it finally worked for you.
You missed it in my post. Look again.
Uploading when you want to works for you, great.
Reply to the OP to help them out with their issue instead of correcting me.
It worked for him after he uploaded it again. Which is what I told him to do
