Totally Repeatable on Windows 11

Windows 11 up to date–single monitor—NO CLOUD SERVICE USED AT ALL–RM 8, RM 9 and RM 10 all updated to latest versions…

I noticed this a couple of weeks ago while working on something else–I was hoovering the mouse pointer over the RM Icon and moved the pointer slight up and saw this…

The 4 databases inside the red border are the ones that are OPEN–Everything else has been CLOSED OUT–so Yes you are seeing 2 ghost databases and at least 4 drop n drag ghost boxes— I have no idea why they are still showing when I hoover over the RM Icon…

This is repeatable in RM 8, RM 9 and RM 10-- I don’t know if you would see it on a Mac–I also don’t know if you can see it in Windows 10 as I can’t remember when Windows changed to listing what was open in a program to pictures like this

Not really looking for an explanation BUT it does make me wonder IF this could be what is causing those 217 errors, argument out of range and/or access violations…
How to duplicate this

  1. Open 4 different databases…
  2. do a couple of drop n drags ( if you don’t have a test database, you can delete them once you’ve done them)–
note I have seen it also with set relationships…
  3. close 2 databases…
  4. then open 2 more databases different from the 1st ones…

After that put your pointer on the RM ICON in the task bar so that you can see what is there and then move the pointer slightly upwards and you should see the picture above…

Just basically an FYI…

At first read, I notice your taskbar has been altered from a normal default and presumably that means some customization utility is affecting display. What happens if you turn that off?

The image shows the normal Windows 11 taskbar. It’s similar to mine. You can hide or show various items that might make the bar look different from yours, but it’s the same taskbar.

Interesting. My taskbar has Start button and icons centered in the middle.

Settings>Personalization>Taskbar>Taskbar Behavior allows you to set the Taskbar alignment to either Left or Center.

I keep mine on the left to mimic Win 10.

Exactly, I keep mine on the left and so does nkess.

I’m not able to recreate this.

@kbens0n --BobC and cweese already explained why ( Thank you both) BUT I decided to try it with the taskbar in the center same as your and it happened again

note-- this time you see 2 database with John Ross Allensworth – this time I opened 4 databases --did the drop and drag --then closed my Boy and Allensworth databases and opened them again…

@rzamor1 – are you using a laptop?-- Not sure if it will happen on a laptop-- or are you using a company computer ( instead of a personal computer)? Only reason I ask is that a while back, I was having a problem with the Family search website-- contacted their support and they couldn’t see the problem UNTIL they used a personal computer instead of a company computer…

EDIT–I looked at this a little more-- you don’t have to do ANY drag n drops and you ONLY have to use 2 databases that you open and close more than one time…

Personal desktop computer, Windows 11
