RM11 download from Ancestry stalling out?

macOS 26, MacBook Air M1

I’m trying to get a largish (13000+ people) tree to download to RM11, and it has only progressed to 31%. No errors to be found in Console, but not much internet activity to be seen in Activity Monitor.

I repeated the attempt a second time, with the same results. It initially gets past 50% (this is just for ‘downloading’ step) then reverts to 0, progresses and then stalls out at 31% (for at least an hour).

IIRC, I had similar issues with RM10 but got actual error, with a different Mac and obviously previous version of macOS.

Any suggestions?

I tried another, larger tree, with same ‘two phase’ download behavior, with this one stalling at 35% on the second pass.

If it wasn’t downloading in RM10 it more than likely won’t in RM11. We haven’t made any changes to TreeShare in RM11 or determined yet what causes some trees to not download. If you have not shared the tree with support to test the download you can open a ticket for them to test it. It maybe a few days before we can test downloading Ancestry trees.

I think I somehow got RM10 to work but maybe I just generated GEDCOM and imported that so at least I could do some reports, etc.

Would it be worth trying this on a Windows 11 computer? I do have one…

It wouldn’t hurt. Hope you get better results.

It would take time away from other things I’m doing, and from what @rzamor1 states it is related to the tree structure on Ancestry and not a platform dependent behavior. I’ll wait for some response on ticket before trying any of that.

Meanwhile I tried the third largest of my trees, with same stalling issue. I have not yet had a response on the ticket I filed. I’m quite willing to help determine root cause of this, but I cannot do it by myself.

Looks like Support replied on Thursday to your ticket and you haven’t replied back.

We had several exchanges but no resolution of the issue. It persists with the latest update. IIRC they suggested using RM9 to download and then convert to RM11 and maybe that works, but my main interest was to discover root cause (not some workaround) and we were not making any progress on that.

I downloaded trees with Windows system and moved them to Mac. So I am able to sorta use the DNA match feature to get more insight into where unresolved matches fit (really need Pro Tools subscription on Ancestry to get anywhere with matches there).

It’s pretty time-consuming though, and not clear it is adding value to what I can do on Ancestry w/Pro Tools or MyHeritage and their DNA ‘theories’.

I too have had this stalling problem again and again in Version 11. I cannot get the media of an Ancestry tree of about 1,900 to download. I have updated to the latest version, with no luck. Have you been able to get this to work?

If you are using the mac version, try a RM9 download. That worked for me. You can get the RM9 sw from the RM website. If the download works, just open the file in RM11. This approach doesn’t help if you’re trying to push a file to ancestry but it is valid for downloading your ancestry tree; it seems to be the best available work around while development sorts out the core issue.
