I guess I don’t view the NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE message as a problem. About the only other thing RM could do would be to leave the sentence blank, which probably would be worse. Rather, the NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE message is an alert that you have either created or imported a new fact type and that the new fact type doesn’t have a sentence.

You’re absolutely correct Jerry and I’m sure that it’s not a problem for you, Renee, Nancy, Kevin, and all of the other experienced RM users that have thankfully been helping me to that realization. And I fully agree with you that the NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE message is an appropriate warning message to the seasoned user. However, to an inexperienced user like myself, it has certainly been a problem, and will remain a problem/ penance until I have fixed every Ancestry related fact; newspaper article clipped, every find a grave fact, and whatever other facts that remain causing this warning message NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE to appear in RM’s Narrative Report.

I don’t see the 3-dot menu, probably because I’m using Version 11. Where is it? The only 3 dots I see are at the top right (the “options” label pops up) in the green file bar, and 3 dots next to “INDEX”. I imported a Gedcom file from Legacy Family Tree. The solution to this issue should be added to the Help topics in the next RootsMagic version, or addressed in a video. Thanks.
Am assuming you are trying to define a sentence for a specific Fact type and Role. Renee said
With RM11, select “Lists” from the “People” page and then select the “Fact Type list”.
You can also get to the “Fact Type list” from any Edit Person window by select the “+” to add a fact.
Then highlight the fact type that is missing the sentence and click “Edit”.
From there you select “Edit Role” and update the sentence as appropriate. There’s online help on Fact sentences including the sentence template language. You might want to open a new thread if you have questions about formulating a specific sentence.
Note that if you started from the “Edit Person” window and just want to edit the sentence template for a role and without adding the fact type to the person, then select “Cancel” when you get back to the “Fact Type” window (after saying “OK” to the "Edit Role " and “Edit Fact Type” pop-up windows). The change to the sentence template will have already been saved. And it’s not a big deal if you say “OK” on the “Fact Type” window, just delete the new fact from the person.
