I need a reminder about the Living Checkbox and the Privacy rules in reports, websites, and GEDCOMs.
I am not sharing my tree with Ancestry or FamilySearch. I saw in previous posts that sometimes confuses the issue.
I want to confirm that if the Living box is NOT checked, then the person is treated as dead in reports, websites, and GEDCOMs. To me, that means that their name and facts will be included if that is how I set up the report, website, or GEDCOM.
On the other hand, if the Living box is checked, then I can remove all their information from reports, websites, and GEDCOMs.
Is this understanding correct or is it more complicated?
Pretty much, but there is an additional step/consideration… the keywords being privacy/privatize/private (as You mention in your title). Example:
Anther good thing to understand:
-RootsMagic automatically unchecks living when a Death fact is entered (as well as folks determined to be over abt 105 years old using a Birth fact w/year entered), but if later you realize your entry was mistaken and delete that fact, RM doesn’t re-checkmark that Living checkbox. In other words, the checkbox is not “dynamically” monitored and updated.
You can privatize facts in reports but not people. In the GEDCOM if you were trying to remove living people you need to do that under “People to export”. Otherwise, the privacy option would only change their name or how facts show. They will still be included in the file. They would also be included in the website with the privacy settings like GEDCOM.
