In comparison to RM7, if I want to open a person edit window in RM10 I need to select the name in the Index panel (left) then click on the person listed in one of the right “View” panels.
Why not open the person edit window straight from the Index and Person detail panels on the left side, as it was in RM7?
Wow, and thanks for all your hints re opening the person edit window. From RM7 I was used to simply (intuitively) doubleclick the name in the Index panel or the spouse details above, and this opened the respective person edit page.
The edit icon under “Details” I have simply overlooked, so far, but it’s still another mouse move …
I think that’s a good question. The fact that there are several other ways to open the edit person screen doesn’t explain why you can’t do it by double clicking a person in the Index in the sidebar. You are probably already looking at the Index and the mouse probably already on the Index. So why not support a double click on the Index?
as @kbens0n said you probably are using the index pain.
The click person works from most other places (Pedgree, People, Family, Descendant views from the main pane) but not the index pane (thought that ability has been suggested before)
I understood the comments to mean that I can highlight a person in the index on the lower right of the screen, right click on the person, and the edit screen would come up. Did you mean that we can right click on the actual person in the Pedigree, Family, or other views to get to the edit screen? That’s true but seems superfluous to me.
Well, while having 5 actions to open the Edit Person window may seem superfluous, it is purposeful. The index pane has multiple tabs for multiple functions (many which filter away the ability to select any and all persons, and thusly, their Edit Person window) so the many other ways facilitate access via the selected highlighted person displayed directly, by either single-clicking their name in the index (if currently visible) or by the selected person in panes on the right or navigated to by directional arrows.
If you are talking about the Edit button in the Info panel in the side panel, it can become covered up. Also, it disappears if you choose the Parents tab or the Spouses tab. Here is a 26 second video of those effects.
