MyRootsMagic Site - Limiting size

MyRootsMagic Site - Limiting size

is there a way to limit the resulting size on MyRootsMagic site without needing a separate Database? My RM file is 206mb but says too big even when all photos are unchecked.

I thought I recall seeing a discussion about this past year or so – but could not find it.
(yes I am aware of being able to use other options like TNG, GEDSITE, but currently I do not have a host)

TNG is a great option BTW if you have host to put it on,

thanks
Kevin

Part question, part suggestion. As GEDCOM is a text only file, would a GEDCOM export taken from your tree and then subsequently loaded into a separate new RM file be reduced in size?

I seem to recall that the file had to be less than 200Mb

I understand your thought process – however –
it likely would reduce size I would imagine but it would be like translating from English to German and back to English. The Main issue with GEDCOM is the loss – and you would loose on RM specific data. I could limit the people to a new RM Database all in RM UI relatively easily - but then I would be need to do that everytime which is why I was asking to avoid that extra tedious process.

Well … it took it 2 week ago above 200mb - but in any case I need to reduce size by probably about 10 % and I wanted to avoid having 2 or more separate databases. I am not sure if even with media/photos not checked if it still brings them in but just doesnt display them.

It can’t be done without two databases if your primary database is too big. From your primary database, make a smaller database and upload the smaller database to MyRootsMagic. From my point of view, I would delete the smaller database at this time.

The new Drag and Drop is not as lossy as GEDCOM and not as lossy as the old Drag and Drop that was based on GEDCOM. So I would make a group of people I wanted in MyRootsMagic, make a new and effectively temporary database, drag and drop the group to the temporary database, upload the temporary database to MyRootsMagic, and delete the temporary database. Well, one more step is that it’s helpful to delete the previous databbase from MyRootsMagic before uploading rather than trying to upload on top of the existing database in MyRootsMagic.

thank – that is what I suspected but thought there might be a different work around I had missed – I had already deleted my original from 2023 in preparation for that
