Good afternoon, I’m usung RM9, with a file size of 7.38 MB (7,745,536 bytes) and 344 media items, I have vreated a MyRootsMagic site, which has my tree and the various Media files that go with it, however when I go to the web site and click on a media item, it opens in a thumbnail size screen, which is un readable, because of it’s size, is there anything that I can do to increase this smail screen, I have tried the Zoom function within my browser, but that just increases the size of the screen and makes any detail blurry. I’mm hoping that this is a setting issue that I have not set, but any help would be appreciated.
I seem to recall one cause for this symptom as being that one uploaded to their website two consecutive times without deleting the entire website in between. Perhaps try deleting the existing website and upload it again.
That does seem to work, in that I have deleted the original website, and then recreated it, and the data that has been uploaded now shows in a readable manner, however the media files that were uploaded originally, have not been uploaded, so I’m going to have to try to remember how I managed that…
Update I have deleted the file again, and rebuilt it, this time unselecting the “Living” relative option, but still media files have not been copied across, I have no idea what has caused this, Obviously, missing media is not ideal, when some of that media will be photo’s and also copies of the various Census reports.
Update No.2 I have sorted the above issue, and now have a medai tab, but this tab, does not include all media that I have in my Desktop copy, the previuos version of MyRootsMagic web site, did have everything, I’m now not sure whether there is something I’ m not doing, or may I am doing, that will stop media files being uploaded to the website. Any thoughts, anywhere?
Check if there are any broken media links. On the Media page scroll through all the thumbnails to make sure those are also generated.
Thanks, Renee, I have checked the Media files, within the program on my laptop, and haviing found one broken link, realised what that was and deleted it, I have just run the Fix Broken media link tool, and have found no other broken links. I have 343 media files within my tree, but only 49 have been uploaded.
What file extension are the ones not uploading?
That’s the thing, I have both JPG and PDF files that need to be uploaded, when I created the site originally, all these files were uploaded, now, though, some of the JPG files have been uploaded, some have not, and none of the PDF files have been uploaded.
Update I have moved the JPG files into a separate file from the PDF files, but the result, within the MyRootsMagic web site has not changed, I have deleted the whole website an number of times and rebuilt it, but to no avail.
Only image files will upload. The PDF files are not image files, even though they may contain images inside them. The JPG files should upload. Open a support ticket with a backup with media and we can see what’s happening. Tell us which JPGs are not showing. You could also do a small backup of just those individuals to test.

Hmm, that does not make too much sense, in that I have jpg files in the same folder, that have not been uploaded, II understand the point you make about PDF files, it would have been useful if that had been made clear within the application, that PDF files cannot be uploaded to the Website, I have a work around to convert these files to jpg files, but that is only useful if they then upload to the website. I’m going to delete the Website and start again, after making sure that all the relevant jpg files in RM9 are pointing to the correct location on my Laptop [hopefully that last sentence makes sense]
Update
So, once again , I have deleted the website, and, this time, created a brand new site with a new name, but even with all the imae files in the correct format, the ones uploaded are exactly the same as previously found… Total File size is 26MB
RM10 has to be told a file is not a jpg to import it unlike FTM which just imports all fine.
On mac you could just use Quick actions to convert PDFs to JPGs for the website but it seems RM has a problem with jpgs too.
Unfortunately that is not an option in RM9, The only option in RM9 is for image files, but as you say, RM has a problem with them as well. I have deleted my “MyRootsMagic” account, and recreated it, but that has not made any differnece.
Does the created website look right when viewed with a browser to your local machine copy ?
Yes, evrything looks fine, and the JPG files are fine, it’s just the fact that for some reason, which I cannot currently understand, not all the jpg files, contained within the Tree on my laptop, are uploaded to the website.
I’m not sure I fully understand. Are you able to determine specific image files that show up on the “local view” but not at the myrootsmagic website? It almost sounds like you believe that all image files in your media tab will be a part of the upload, regardless of website type chosen to be created.
Kevin, so the files within the media tab in RM9 are now jpg files and they number just over 300 files, these files are linked to individuals with my my tree. When I upload the database to the myrootsmagic website I find only a few of these files have been uploaded, and by few I mean around 25. I’ve accepted that RM9 will only take jpg files so I have been converting the PDF files to jpg’s.
Look at the ones that did upload and see if they are marked “Primary Photo”. I don’t know if ones not marked get uploaded.
I’ve never used MyRootsMagic, but as far as included image files go… the local index.htm file on your PC, when viewed in your browser, is meant as a preview of the uploaded site. What you see locally is pretty much what you get remotely. Of course, the extra set of links, it lets you append, will land you online (instead of local). Pretty sure… only some of the images are included, else the allocated space per user would be threatened by large amounts of images.
I don’t know the procedure RM uses to create the online copy of your website, but is it possible the html files are copied first then the image files? If you run out of space online maybe the html files and some of the jpgs get uploaded and any images that exceed the online space limit would not be uploaded. I don’t know if this could be the case. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the upload procedure could shed some light.
By default only Primary Photos are uploaded.
Thanks evryone, It looks like it is only the primary images that are uploaed, not sure why this is the case, as, before I had deleted it, the original website taht I created had taken all the images including the PDF files, I only deleted the site, because I could not get a reasonable image to display… Currently My Website is only 26Mb, including teh images, which I believe is well below the limits for RM9
