I'm listed as my own half-brother

I just upgraded to RM11. Upon opening the file, my own entry is shown highlighted in “Family View”. The sidebar shows my name and below that it says “Half brother”. So I go to Settings > General. The Root Person is set to me, which is what I want. To be sure, I go back to the Family View and right-click on my entry, scroll to “Position” and select “Set as root person”. But the side bar still shows me as Half brother. I exited the program and restarted. No change. I dug around and found that one of my half-sisters does show “Self” in her sidebar.

How do I make my own profile show “Self”? If that is not what the “root person” setting is doing, then what is it doing?

Set Root Person is NOT the same as Show Relationship–With your database open , go to tools–Set Relationship–choose your self and hit set relationship

Root person can be set to anyone you want–and in the Settings, you have the option to open your database all the time with the root person or last person you worked on before exiting…

Root person /Home person and set relationships are not necessarily the name thing.

they can can be the same

To ‘set relationships’ it might be you or it could be someone else – you spouse, your child or grandchild etc

one note any new people do not automatically get added / ‘set’ relationships – so if you want to see their relationship after you have added them (or altered their relationship any way) you need to re-run set relationships – this is by design otherwise those 1-2 seconds delays would occur every time you add someone to the db
