I usually want to set relationships to myself when browsing other people, requiring me to browse to myself in the Change dialog. It would be so much easier if a button for Root Person were available next to a narrower Change button.
Keep in mind – SET Relationship and SET Root person are not necessarily the same. You can set them to be same person but that does not have to be. Usually I have me set as root person, and I might have my daughter or grandson as the SET Relationships person (or a cousin etc) depending on what I am doing.
If you were not aware the HOME button brings you to to the Root person directly.
(you or whoever you have set)
I know all that. What is inconvenient to me is that, if I am looking at, say, a distant ancestor I’ve just added, I want to update my relationship data to include them and show their relationship to ME. Yet, when I choose the Set Relationships tool, it assumes I want to set relationships to the person I’m viewing, not to myself. I then have to click Change and select myself (note, I do NOT want to change the person view to myself, just update the relationships and keep the same person view.)
That’s actually the benefit of having Set Relationships to a default (You, Child or Parent or EOL blood relative, Etc.) and leaving it for most of the time. It would seem far less common to continually change the displayed relationships reference person often (your request here). Perhaps, speed up the change by adding Yourself to Bookmarks and use that and the left arrow (back) of the < > buttons (top right).
OK, I see now I can temporarily select the Root Person (myself), then use Set Relationships, then go back (<) to whom I was working on. Thanks for illustrating the use of the navigation buttons.
