Fact repeating in Narrative Report

Below is a copy of two paragraphs of a Narrative Descendants report. What can I do to keep the marriage information from repeating in the 2nd paragraph? Or not to show in the 1st paragraph?

The report begins with Adele O Giraud’s 4th great grandfather as Gen 1. This is happening in each generation’s entry. I’m sure there is a setting I don’t have right, but I can’t figure it out.

Thanks for any suggestions.

She was buried in Mission Burial Park North.

It shouldn’t be repeating. Can you give us a screen shot of the Edit Person screen.

Sure. Here it is.

The common denominator is the shared family fact. You need to take a look at how you have defined the roles in the shared fact and whether they are included in narrative reports.

Renee, I see the two entries at age 23. I don’t think I’m entering marriages twice (once for her and once for him) and don’t think I’m sharing the fact. I just assumed that when I enter the marriage for one spouse, it automatically showed on the other’s person sheet. BUT I’m guessing that one of those entries shouldn’t be there. Right?

Bob, can you explain a little more? I thought I was just entering a marriage. I knew it was shared in some way, but I thought it just was automatic.

OK! I think I’ve figured out that I must have ‘shared’ the marriage facts. Didn’t mean too, and don’t know why I did. How do I delete/remove that share? Or do I have to delete the fact and go back and re-enter the marriage? Thanks.

Marriage and Divorce are “Family Facts” which means that RM automatically connects them to both parties and they print after individual facts in Narrative Reports. The number under the “Picture” column shows that they have been set up as a “Shared Fact” and it appears that “Shared Facts” also print in Narrative Reports under the individual. I haven’t tested this but you should to confirm how the “Shared Fact” works.

A little late, but I’ve figured that out. I have figured out how to delete the share for things like marriages and divorces. I don’t know why I did that! I knew it would automatically show in the spouse’s info as it is what you are calling a Family Fact! Must have had a senior moment!!! Is there a way to get a list of facts that have been shared? In TMG, we shared/or added ‘witnesses’ to things like census facts (spouse, children, etc), officiants of marriages, bridal parties, etc. Had roles and sentences for these shared items that I created or were default in the program. I think that is the same thing here, just by a different name. Is that correct? Thanks for your help.

This is an interesting thread to me for a curious reason. Namely, I share Marriage and Divorce facts with each spouse on purpose - not as an accident that I now need to undo. The reason I do so is to improve the appearance of my narrative reports.

Namely, individual facts such as Birth and Death show up in a timeline for each individual, and couple facts such as Marriage and Divorce show up in a different timeline that’s for the couple as a whole. In addition to having the Marriage and Divorce facts show up in the timeline for the couple, I also want the Marriage and Divorce fact to show up in the individual timeline for each spouse. And sharing the facts is the way to make that happen.

I will grant that my sentence templates are very non-standard., But within my very non-standard sentence templates, it seems to make a great deal of sense for the Marriage and Divorce facts to show up in the timeline for the couple and also in the timelines for each spouse. Here is a link to a sample report that shows how these things look in my reports. Jerry’s Sample RM Report

One more point is that it is a common complaint among new RM users that facts like Marriage and Divorce seem to be “missing” from the timelines for the spouses. They don’t realize that there are three timelines - one for the first spouse, one for the couple, and one for the second spouse.
