I seem to remember that in a previous discussion it was concluded that you could not copy a fact from a person to the same person. I just did it and it works with an individual fact and a couple (family) fact. It is completely reproducible.
Individual fact:
right click on the fact and select “copy selected fact”.
when the Rootsmagic explorer window opens, do not select another person, just click on the “select” button.
you must then close the “edit person” window for the action to complete. On the other hand it may be completed but you just can’t see it.
reopen the “edit person” window and you will see the fact has been copied.
Family fact:
right click on the fact and select “copy selected fact”.
when the “select family” window opens, select either the mother or father that you had copied from and click on the “ok” button.
you must then close the “edit person” window for the action to complete. On the other hand it may be completed but you just can’t see it.
reopen the “edit person” window and you will see the fact has been copied.
You can then delete one of the duplicate facts if you wish.
Thank you for post and your very clear instruction, which I will be printing out. I missed the previous discussions. I am posting today a tip that I did not know but most probably has already been discussed.
I posted a complaint that this was not possible. Egg on my face…
Thanks for making this clear .
RM needs a window refresh command after the copy command completes so that others aren’t also fooled.

There are several instances where a “refresh” button in the Edit Person window would be nice to have. Copy, Move, and Share facts all result in the same condition where the edit person window has to be closed and then reopened in order to see the update.
I wasn’t aware that it would copy a fact like that. I sent that to development to look at the design again. I let them know you wanted the behavior of copying facts to the same person.
On the refresh issue, instead of closing the Edit Person screen move to a different tab on the left menu and then come back.
