Since I haven’t been a fan of web hints ever since RM has been out. I decided to give it a shot with web hints from Ancestry. In the screen shot, what does this tell me and what should I do with the info? I tried reading the help file, but it just didn’t sink in to me. Thanks!
just one additional comment – Ancestry and Family search call census info as RESIDENT facts.
the record hints do seem to align with resident facts in RM.
Using your single screenshot provided about Augustus:
You ALREADY have recorded the same 1900 Census into RM that Ancestry is hinting AND the yellow-colored items are warning of a small variation in data (possibly less important) of minor difference (added USA).
The red-colored items warn of a (possibly more important) variation in data (adds municipality Hodges).
Green-text is obviously matching data and text with White-background is ONLY present in RM or at Ancestry (not both).
Additionally, we cannot tell (from your screenshot alone) whether You continued your strong recording of 1900 Residence fact (as done with 1850-1880) but if there IS one already, the municipality may not be in the RM fact, as it is at Ancestry. Maybe the Residence fact based off 1900 Census may not yet exist on the RM side OR maybe RM isn’t smart enough to read past the 1850-1880 Residence facts to ONLY color the backgrounds of the same 1900 Residence Place.
The whole dynamic is that You get to choose whether to click the button named Edit RootsMagic person or not. Doing so, would facilitate making elective changes based on Ancestry’s data offering. Whew!
Just remember that if you do accept the web hint into your tree, any media will download with awful file names and only into a media folder that is within the data folder. And if you already have that media it will duplicate it with a double mystery filename! All a recipe for a mess.
If you want proper control, download that data manually from Ancestry (or wherever), name it and place it as you want and add it to RM manually.
