I’m using RM9 on Windows 11. I downloaded my Ancestry Tree. It went well, I was only short 1 person. 2850 as opposed to 2849. Anyway when I exit out and do a backup I get this:
“SQLite Error 1 = table not found. Place Table”
and the screen is a bunch of line squares on my chosen background color. The program doesn’t close completely until I “x” out of it. I’ve backed up twice today and its done that both times. The last file is 5,115 KB so appears to be backing up okay.
I don’t know how to place a table. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
Is that “Place Table” or “PlaceTable”. There is a table named “PlaceTable” in the RM database structure but no table named “Place”. There is also a database used by RM that is not SQLite and it is named Places.db but it is not even used in a RM Backup operation. For that matter, I wouldn’t think SQLite is even involved in the RM Backup unless it’s a backup with media. Can you do a RM backup without media?
If yes, then it points to a problem in either the code for including media in the backup or worse, possibly a corrupted database. I wouldn’t expect a code fault in RM9 backup with media at this point because others would have experienced it, unless your RM9 installation itself is corrupted. If the latter, then none of your databases would backup with media. You could uninstall and reinstall RM9 to fix that.
If this one database is corrupted to the extent that PlaceTable cannot be found by SQLite, then it is unusable. Another download to a new database is in order after a full shutdown of RM and computer.
Thanks for your response. Yes I can - which is what I usually do. I back up my media files separately to my external hard drive. I was using the “count the number of trees” tool before I exited out of the program. I’m going to work on the database today and see what happens when I close out the file and back it up. It will have to be after midnight so I don’t overwrite the prior database.
If the problem continues, I’ll have to do that. I downloaded the Ancestry file to find the errors in the tree using RM’s tools. Ancestry seems to be doing away with their free tree checker tool so they can push their “ProTools” app which is $10/month. If I run certain of the RM tools, I can fix the errors in my Ancestry file too. Thanks for your response!
In the backup dialog, you can rename the backup file so that it does not overwrite the default one. Simply add a suffix to the file name such as -A or -01 or hh:mm. Make and keep as many backups as you want.
If you succeed in working on your database that gave you the backup error, then there’s nothing wrong with it. You wouldn’t see any Places without the PlaceTable table and I’m sure you would be getting lots of errors. If the error on backup repeats, then the fault lies within the application.
I’ve been working on my database since I posted today. I just closed it and did a backup and got another error: SQLite Error 1 = no such table PlaceTable. I am not having any issues with places or anything else while on work on the database. Only this error when I close and backup. I tried to take a screenshot but Windows 11 can’t do a simple task without going through 800 steps first. I just looked at my Places list. There are lots of names on it, but the detail is all zeros. Hmmm.
Thanks for your insight, but I’m also working on another database in RM9 and it isn’t having any problems. I think something went haywire in the download from Ancestry. And I’m just not ready for RM10 just yet. I’m still trying to use RM9 to full advantage.
Yes I have run the Database Tools with no errors reported.
I do not back up my media with the database backup. Never have. I do it separately to an external hard drive because I never had enough space on my laptop until now.
I usually just press “prt sc” and it would copy the screen to the clipboard. Windows 11 want’s to do all kinds of snipping and sizing things. I wish they’d stop fixing what wasn’t broken. I’ll try again.
When you press “prt sc” and that little snip menu appears (top center)… the 3rd icon from the left has a little down arrow (sideways greater than sign). Click it and then click Full Screen to get the equivalent of copy the screen.
It saves to the C:\Users\martisiq\Pictures\Screenshots folder.
Then another small window opens (lower right). Just click the tiny “X” visible in that window to close it.
As of tonight, the last three times I have closed out and backed up the DB, I have not received that error. I have been working on a problem list and may have unknowingly “fixed” the problem by fixing one of the found problems. Whatever - it seems to be gone. Thanks!
Glad it’s ended but the mystery remains why it happened at all. The error message makes no sense when backing up without media because that is not a database operation. It is a call to a zip utility in the application to archive a copy of the database file in zip format to a file with the extension “.rmtree” instead of “.zip”. There need not be a SQLite query of the database.
I have no idea why it happened, and if it happens again, I will certainly come back here. Maybe I can get a screen shot next time, now that I know what I’m doing. I’m old but I can be taught. Thanks again everyone!
