RM9 and RM11 - Tree Share

I have been using RM9 for several years now (still love RM7 interface). I have established a procedure where I don’t let Ancestry mess with my “master” file. I have a separate file that I use to tree-share when I need to download changes. I then use a “last edited” routine to list the files that were changed (new persons or modified persons) and those are then copied to my “master” file and I run the same “last edited” routine on the master file so I know which ones might need to be fixed, i.e. source definitions corrected. Now I have a RM11 tree with the same setup. I have not used treeshare on RM9 file since using treeshare on the RM11 file. Will I be able to still treeshare with RM9 or do I need to do something like disconnect RM11 before I can use treeshare on RM9? I haven’t decided yet that RM11 is my cup of tea although I do like the source list for each person. It would be nice to be able to continue with RM9 too. Thanks for your consideration. BTW - Windows 11 HP Laptop.

You can have an RM9 database and an RM11 database connected to the same Ancestry tree at the same time. I’m assuming that the RM11 database was created by importing your RM9 database. If so, that surely is how the RM11 database became connected to the Ancestry. Otherwise, you can’t just have an existing RM database and an existing Ancestry tree an say “connect them together”. It won’t work. But importing from RM9 to RM11 will do the trick.

My only caution is that I wouldn’t have the RM9 TreeShare and the RM11 TreeShare open at the same time. I don’t know if anything bad would happen or not, but I would be very skittish of even trying it to see what might happen.

Thanks Jerry. I did convert the RM9 database to RM11. But I created a new RM11 database and will use that file to treeshare with Ancestry. The RM9 database I use to treeshare with Ancestry is not the “master” RM9 database on my laptop. I don’t let Ancestry touch the “master” files.

Do I need to close one of the RM treeshare files before I connect the other? I just recently had a nightmare scenario where I couldn’t get my RM9 file to connect anymore. So I downloaded a new RM9 “treeshare” file and treeshare is working again. I just downloaded a new RM11 “treeshare” file to work with the “master” RM11 file.

Well, DUH, I just realized you answered my question in your reply. Thanks again.
