RM11: photos overprinting text in narrative reports

Hi

The photo of each spouse of each direct descendant overprints the text in my narrative reports (example attached). It exclusively and consistently affects the ‘X and X were married on X’ sentence.

This happens regardless of the report type, photo size, font, style, and paragraph formatting - I have played around with all these. My program is fully updated.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Confirming issue has been reported to development.

If I remember correctly, I reported this back around version 8.

Actually confused by this @callumvittalismith and @Vyger as I put some random pictures in my test database-- ran the report and it works just fine for me-- I even increased the size of the photo to 3. 5 x 3.5 on the report and it still worked-- note it will NOT include photos if you pick a size larger than 3.5 X 3.5-- at least for me
this is at 3.5 X 3.5

this is 2x2

As for the spouse picture always overlapping at the marriage fact, that is because you don’t have a lot of facts-- you don’t necessarily need a lot of facts BUT that is why it happens
So why does mine work and yours doesn’t?

Here are my settings

Window 11---- RM 11.5.0.0 ----64 bit

Thank you. Does this mean they are working on a solution?

I’m at the start of inputting a large amount of data from a separate program for the purpose of generating a descent report, but I don’t want to invest the much time & effort without fixing this or knowing it will be fixed.

Thanks Nancy. The issue does occur to each spouse no matter how many facts there are - here’s a screenshot where the narrative text extends beyond the photo as an example (cropped for privacy).

You missed this part:

ie. the Marriage fact sentence starting the person’s narrative is not in your tests

Sorry @kbens0n you missed the point-- it doesn’t matter the amount of facts nor the original size of the photo-- wide and squatty , tall and thin or perfectly square-- my photos line up next to the person’s info-- NOT the spouse on top of the marriage info which is actually at the bottom of the 1st person

tall 1st then squatty

just a tall one

just a squarer photo

I tried a lot of variations-- a squarer photo with a long squatty and a squarer photo with a tall and thin and a squarer photo by itself and they all line up BY the person-- a tall and thin photo will have part of the photo by the marriage info as in example one BUT it’s the photo for person one and does NOT cover up the info…
note-sorry had to put the description between the screenshot-- otherwise they ran together

Hi Nancy, thank you for the further explanation.

How do you get the marriage info to appear at the bottom of the first person, rather than at the start of the spouse’s text?

It looks good, and might very well solve my issue.

Only thing I can say is look at my settings that I posted above as I’m NOT doing anything special-- that’s why I am confused as I don’t know why mine works and yours does NOT-- if you were on a MAC, I would say it MIGHT be the difference between Windows and a MAC BUT can’t say that as I don’t know what you are using…

Are you using the 32 bit or 64 bit version?

Hi Nancy & all others

Nancy, thank you - producing a NEHGS report has fixed my problem. The photos do not overprint the text on this report.

It’s not my preferred report (which is Henry) - but certainly usable and I’m happy with this fix in the interim. Hopefully in time the issue will be resolved and we will be able to produce all report types without this photo overprinting issue.

Would appreciate any ideas and updates as they may arise, but until then, thank you all.

Now that @callumvittalismith has discovered that switching from Henry to NEHGS solved her overlap, does the reverse hold true for you?

What about other narrative styles?

To be clear, I did not miss the point and did not say that you did either. But you did express confusion and I did use the word “part” and offer up the screenshots you posted (not having the same construct as the original poster) as the potential source of your confusion. That is all.

See attached and note the date.

@callumvittalismith @TomH @rzamor1

Nailed it Tom-- Henry definitely overlaps with my same people

tall and squatty

will check on the others and Renee’s info that if you have very little facts, it will happen-- of course I had the exact amount of facts on NEHGS and Henry-- may be much latter when I check this out though

I checked the other narrative styles using my second group in the last post and I found that:
Henry, Outline and D’Aboville all overlap the marriage info or the start of the spouse info..

All the others-- Ancestors, Ancestors and Children, NGSQ and NEHGS do NOT overlap on the spouse or marriage info

As for as this

I only had birth death and marriage facts for Ken which is a SMALL AMOUNT— BUT only 3 of the reports had a problem — so I went in and eliminated all facts EXCEPT the marriage— Results same as above

When I eliminate all facts INCLUDING the MARRIAGE— ALL the reports print just FINE – this is D’Aboville ( same as above) - no facts-- no marriage fact

So @TomH or anybody else-- does any of this give you any ideas why???

I noticed this happening AFTER Version 7…was very disappointed after alerting RM of this problem…I had always been happy with the way Narratives printed out.

I am not sure of HOW to fix this problem. I have seen advice of opening the narrative in a Word Processing program and fixing it. Really don’t want to do that. I feel it is a RM problem…and they created it when initiating RM8. I had been waiting 10-12 years for them to allow media to be inserted into narratives…they have incorporated this into Verson 11…but, now there is another problem…the narrative debacle above.

So @Rollgold instead of waiting any longer, just use one of the reports above as they should work just fine-- at least they did for me

I was just going to reply…I had seen some advice about using the NGSQ, NEHGS and I tried it…as long as I wasn’t using outline (as I have done for decades)…success. I know that the older versions would only accept one picture per individual, but Customer Service said that pictures can be inserted right into the narrative (like the old FTM)…hope that’s true and he didn’t mean just the Scrapbook.

Hi @rzamor1,

I did detailed testing to help developers understand/discover potential causes. I replicated the problem anytime I use any of the “(indented)” Report types.

To be clear,

  • The following report types do not present the problem: Ancestors only; Ancestors and children; NGSQ (modified register); NEHGS (register)

  • The following do present the problem: Outline (indented); Henry (indented); D’Aboville (indented)

Hope that helps… Let me know if you think we can dig deeper.
