RM 11 in the UK

When was Roots Magic 11 released? I’m in the UK and my Home screen says I have the latest version 10.0.9.0 which was released 1 month ago. I’ve tried refreshing the screen, twice, but to no avail. I then looked at the website of S&N Genealogy who I’ve always understood to be RM agent in the UK. Its web page RootsMagic UK Version 11 - S&N Genealogy Supplies suggests I can download Version 11 so why does RM itself suggest I can’t? And then I’ve seen some comments here saying some people (I’m guessing in the US) have had difficulties getting license keys etc. Also, web page RootsMagic UK|Update says Update Roots Magic 11 Click Here to download the latest update file (Version 10.0.9). So, one way and another, I’m a bit confused !!! :frowning: All I know for sure is I don’t have the new features of Life Story, AI Prompt Builder etc - and they look good  Can anyone help please?

I think it was first available on Friday (12th Sept) evening in the UK.

The latest update of version 10 is 10.0.9.

I don’t think RM have even shown the next major update in the previous version. (Maybe because it is chargable)

I ordered and then downloaded the RM-11 upgrade from RootsMagic UK with no issues, the new licence key was sent within a few minutes.

I would just order it from the UK site if you are based in the UK.

RM10 Home screen:

I have never seen any news other than sub-releases.

That typically shows that when you have the UK download and are using a US key or vice versa.

I downloaded the UK version from the UK supplier and used the key they sent.

what is different between the uk version and the us version ?

for me interesting because i live in the netherlands and i have the US version, (i hope that in the UK Version geocoding for place details i can ad myself ) now it is imposseble

I ordered Version 11 from S@N and downloaded with no problems, the key arrived very quickly, the only thing is that when I came to save version 11 it saved as version 10 and overwrote my backup copy! On the Home screen I have all the version 10 updates showing!

I suggest buying on line directly from RM in USA. It is cheaper and if you have a previous registered version, cheaper still. Download after purchase. Key code email came at once for me.

Note that I think you should not remove previous versions as stated. KEEP them.

I did and all works well. I have 4 versions.

Then same as RM 10 just open a new file and import your previous RM file and it will work properly. Old files stay the same. You may want to put the new file and backups to a different ( new ) folder as an option.

Mine was up and running with “old file “ from RM7 in a few minutes after purchase from RM directly. I looked at some of Bruce’s videos and lots of goodies.

Richard, in daylight this time, in England, but very windy and lashing train. A change from last several weeks of burning sun.

Richard, Thank you for your input, but I have to say I bought from the US once about 18 months ago; I thought being in the UK wouldn’t matter but it turned into a bit of a nightmare which I only sorted out with a lot of input from Renee. Too easy to get a mismatch between license keys, server location, etc. At one point I had 14 red badges on the Home Screen. If I used ‘Mark As Read’ to clear them it was not saved so when I re-opened a new RM session there they were again - all 14 !! Never again, I’d much rather pay an extra £5 or whatever it is.

My OP on this was actually about why the UK seemed to be out of sync with the US on the realease of RM 11, it wasn’t clear if it was available yet on our side of the pond. BTW I think S&N have caught up now!

I always buy in the UK to support a small local business and pay quickly and easily in sterling.

It all went very easily as usual and had no problems keeping my RM10 installation. I did back up my RM10 data first, adding RM10 in the backup file name to show it was the final one but I could have copied my databases to a new RM11 data folder before converting.

Those who say buy from the USA forget the additional costs of exchange fees and foreign transaction fees and any other hassle that needs to be taken into account.

PatJ, That’s what I’m going to do. Thank you for your advice. I was probably just being a bit too impatient the other day when I wrote my OP.
