I updated to RM11 (UK) version when it was launched. Went on holiday last week and came back to 2 updates, which I installed. After this the program showed:-
Now every time I open RM I get:-
I download it and get:-
But the same thing happens every time I open it. Does anyone else have the same problem or a solution, please?
No! I downloaded it once from the Updates area, then ticked the ‘Tick’ in the ‘News’ area.
It no longer tells me I have a update
just to clarify – you were always on the UK Version? It might be a “bug” during to UK vs US version – I do not get that on US version

I still have the same issue and notice that after I upgrade RM11 the RootsMagic.exe file does not change and still has the date modified shown as 05/09/2025. It is not read only. Any suggestions?
Sorted. RM11 is installed on my E drive (C is a SSD which I try to keep clear); however the upgrade installed a completely new version in the Program Files folder on my C drive (for some obscure reason - it’s never been there!). Meanwhile the shortcut still points to my E drive. Got there in the end.
are both C & E internal (not external ) drives?
E is not SSD? do you not install on C (SSD) due to limited space?
Also, what do you mainly use C for?
With RM10 I kept getting those indications to download the latest update when I had already done that several times. Eventually I discovered that, like Charlie. the program was installed in more than one place. Personally, I would let the program download to the C drive (I have used SSD drives for years without problems) and eliminate all other copies of the RM11 program in the drives other than C. Of course make a backup on a flash drive before doing this. You can keep backups in the other places which will not affect the program updates.
C & E are both internal drives, C being a SSD that I try to keep clear of active apps to minimise optimisation and E is a traditional hard drive that I use for active apps, photos, etc. Have a couple of plugins (F & G) for onsite backups, etc.
This is the first version that won’t update to my E drive but insists on dumping a new version on my C drive. Now I know it does that I’ll just keep copying the exe file from C to E after updates. Bit of a Beta version V11 - thought they would have had testers. Having said that it’s not as bad as that dreadful V8!
What would you expect them to test? You have elected a non-standard install location. The C drive is specifically the place to install apps. Shifting your data to other drives is reasonable, but apps can and should be on C:.
agreed — there might some deserved criticism of bugs that have yet been resolved from previous version but that is not one of them. still confused on why programs or exe would want preference to non C drive (I understand data files as that is also my setup)
