RM 11.0.2 Update does not install in correct drive

I installed RM 11.0.0 on my E-drive.

I updated to RM 11.0.1, and it updated correctly to the E-drive.

I updated RM11.0.2 and it updated INCORRECTLY to the C-drive. THEREFORE, every time I enter RM 11.0 it thinks I am still on RM 11.0.1.

RM should NOT CHANGE the original installation location upon updating.

How can I get RM 11.0.2 to update into the correct (E-drive) location???

Download directly from the website and install it. It really should be installed on the C Drive.

right mouse on the RootsMagic shortcut icon and change the Target to where the .exe file is
You can have multiple shortcuts to various versions so change the icon for each - I use Star Trek ones :slight_smile:

Welcome to the club, I install on the E drive too!

On previous chats a couple of suggestions have been made. As far as I can see upgrades just alter the RM exe file so I copy that from the C drive folder to my E drive folder after upgrades. Haven’t had a problem yet. Don’t mind another installation sitting idle in my C drive but try to minimise usage on my SSD C drive. The taskbar still points to my E drive but the update changes the desktop shortcut to the C drive installation so I don’t use that one.

On an earlier post ( RM11 update installing in Program files path - #19 by kfunk ) kfunk suggested an alternative;
”I don’t recall if you were on a Windows machine or not, however have you looked at using symlinks? There are more and more apps now installing to a hardcoded default folder, and I am not sure if the links will work when installing updates, my guess is that it will.

For an example (I did not test this):

Open a command prompt as administrator and type

mklink /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\RootsMagic 11" "E:\Rootsmagic"

Of course substituting you own paths as needed.”

This has only become an issue with RM11; from RM7 to RM 10 updates went where you had installed them. I’m not really happy with software dictating where I can store things on my computer.

Hope that may help.
