Relationship Calculator

Didn’t the relationship calculator used to be able to list all the ways two persons were related. When you get further back, sometimes your 17th ggf is also your 18th ggf, 19ggf, 1st cousin 12 times removed, etc.

When I run now, it only shows one relationship (possibly closest relationship?). Is there a way to see all relationships? Am I missing something simple?

In RM10, the Relationship Calculator tool, found under the Tools menu (wrench) of any of the People views, shows all blood relationships. “Set Relationships”, that displays in the side menu, includes spousal and half relationships but only shows 1 relationship. I’ve not seen it documented whether it’s the it shows the 1st relationship found or the closest relationship.

As far as I know, the Relationship Calculator still shows all the relationships. I tested it just now using RM 10.0.2.0, and it still seems to show all the relationships. Be sure you are looking at the Relationship Calculator and not Set Relationships.

Just check my relationship calculator and it also shows all blood relationships as long as there are no REPEATS!!!-- for example my hubby and his mother are actual son/ mother, 3rd cousin once removed and 3rd cousin once removed because his g-grandparents were 1st cousins-- so according to Renee in RM 10, they eliminated REPEATS that go back to the same common ancestor --otherwise it will show all… Have you updated to version 10.0.2.0 ?

Yes, running most current version

Make sure you have parents/spouses set correctly on the paths involved – or it might not be showing the expected extras do spouse or parent relationship.

I think there is a cap distance where it stops finding relationships around 15-20 degrees

So can you post a screenshot? Give us examples— Occasionally ( and not necessarily with RM), I would go in and try to print a report and find that the ancestors stopped at the 3rd g-grandmother-- I was missing at least 3 more generations after her—went back and checked–all the connections looked correct–ended up unlinking her from her parents–then linked her as a child and it solved the problem…
