It would be super helpful if on the places page, they were sorted by Country and State (and equivalent for other regions).
The Reverse Places control gives you that. It’s under the vertical ellipsis on the Places pane.

It will really be a game changer if they would make this one of the Program Settings that could be set once and remembered between RootsMagic sessions. I never don’t want this behavior. I made just such a request late last year. Reverse Places - make it a remembered setting
