Media (image) metadata

Hello, I’m a new user dealing with a fairly (to me) large database and thousands of family pictures and documents. Many of the images have embedded metadata. Primarily the title and caption/description from the IPTC data are used, but occasionally EXIF data items are utilized as well.

I’m looking at trying to add all these media items to the people in the database and I’m not seeing any usage of the metadata when I add to the Media pane. Is this something that RootsMagic is not capable of doing? I can’t imagine having to manually re-enter the data that’s already there in the images. Please say it ain’t so…

Thanks for any help!
Cliff

As far as I know, RM does not support IPTC data and EXIF data.

Support for metadata embedded in image files has been repeatedly requested to no avail. Here is some prior discussion

Hi Tom (and Jerry),

Thank you both for the replies; it’s not what I’d hoped, but I guess I’ll have to deal with it. I did read the referenced post from 2021 and although it appears there’s not a great option for the metadata I was interested to see the work-arounds for getting a description onto the image. In particular I found the description of using XnView MP of interest to combine front and rear scans into a single image. That’s a technique I’ve been using for some time now. It’s more efficient than Photoshop for that task.

Thanks again for your replies, I appreciate the help…
