I accidently deleted my living son from RM10 and now cannot link him back on our family tree. This also caused a disconnection with his siblings and his wife and kids. In trying to correct the error by re-adding his living parents, things just got worse. Now our other two children are not linked to the original tree, yet everything on FamilySearch remains accurate. Because both parents are living, our names don’t appear when searching the RM10 index.
Short of deleting every child and grandchild and re-entering the information, is there anything you can recommend?
The living wife, family, and parents should all be in your RM10 index. Select his wife’s name and reenter your son as her wife. Then link him to the parents.
I’m not sure I understand your question. I gather you have living people in RM who are linked to living people in FamilySearch. Is that the correct description of your situation?
I have no experience with living people in FamilySearch.
From the point of view of RM and without regard to FamilySearch, all your people are probably still in your RM database. If so, in broad general terms, you need to relink the people appropriately. You shouldn’t need to delete anybody and add them back in. So keep everybody, and get the links straightened out. Some additional information about your people might be helpful as far as getting the relinking done.
However, I do not know how getting things fixed in RM will affect the connections between RM and FamilySearch. Is the family still linked correctly in FamilySearch?
Screen shots would help–just take a screen shot and paste it into Paint–erase or black out all info as I did below–save it and upload–doesn’t have to be perfect
I have been rereading this thread. Perhaps I misinterpreted your original posting.
Just messing up your links within your own RM10 database should not affect what you have on FamilySearch. If you have simply matched to FamilySearch within RM without going and changing things there, just unmatch through RM10. Simply matching to FS from within RM10 does NOT copy over anything to FamilySearch. You have to deliberately do that. Personally, I rarely try to add and subtract from FS because I am not very good at it and afraid of messing up there.
Perhaps what MadDog suggested will be the simplest way of getting back to your properly linked family if my earlier suggestion did not work.
If all you have done was to delete the son from RootsMagic and not FamilySearch, then simply go to one of the parents and hover over the blue tree and click FamilySearch. You should now be in the side by side view with RM and FS. Simply select the son on the right side and click on the white square to the left of his name and add him back into your RM.
not sure I fully understand so I am guessing what you mean and is needed.
Assuming the same Family Search user account – you many only need to unmatch and rematch them in RM FSC (Family Search Central) if they are not correct,
