Removing 1 parent in RM10

I recently discovered that one child attributed to a family (via a census) was in fact the illegitimate child of the mother born 2 years before her marriage, whilst she was ‘in service’. I removed the ‘father’ in Ancestry.

When I synced my tree to RM10 it only gave me the option to add the (former) father to Ancestry so I thought I would do the edit in RM. I was disappointed that the ‘unlink from parents’ option in the edit options only gives the option to unlink from both parents (perhaps a future update could give a further dropdown to select Father; mother or both?). I tried that but when I then added the mother to the child it added both parents again. Going to the father I then tried to unlink him from the child but that only gave the option of unlinking all the children from him! In the end I unlinked the child from both parents. A subsequent Ancestry sync then added just the mother. I suspect that part of the problem is my lack of detailed knowledge of the system (I really was happier with Family Origins 4!).

Is there a simpler solution in RM10 or will I need to remember my work around in future?

Where did you attempt this?
In the Family View, you can unlink Family Members. Unlink the child, then go to that child and still in Family View, no parents show up, click on Add Mother and Select Existing Person.

I did that after removing both parents but when I added the mother (only) it added the (wrong) father back too.

It shouldn’t add a Father if you are just adding the Mother. I just added a Mother so someone who has No parents and NO father was added. Strange.

You can remove a father from a family. Display them in the Family View, right click on the father and select to unlink from spouse. It will make a single parent and child family. I wouldn’t use that if there were other children in that same family group that do belong. In that case I would just unlink the child and then use Add Mother.
