Is it time to move to RM10?

I’ve stayed on RM9 for the past year+ while I get familiar with RM. Honestly, I’ve also been watching the learning curve and anomalies others have been experiencing with RM10. Things seem to have stabilized, so now it’s time to revisit the upgrade option.

My question for the group is, besides the DNA information, which I don’t currently need, what are the most useful or valuable features of RM10?

if you are already using RM9 ( or for anyone still RM8).
There is little reason not to move to RM10. If price is a factor you can wait until the next sale (often on Holidays).
You can also try the limited free version

I find rules based groups to be a tremendous improvement and there are related improvements in Advanced Search.

I find the ability to copy a fact from one person to another to be a tremendous improvement. I do that for census facts rather than sharing facts. The RM announcement says Copy, move, or globally add facts to individuals or groups, but I mostly just copy census facts from the head of household to other family members.

There are some minor improvements in color coding. It is much easier to switch color sets.

A negative is that the Set Relationships feature now includes includes a “spouse of” feature to show a person as a spouse of a relative. On its face, this sounds like a great new feature. The problem is that it sometimes marks a person as a spouse of your relative when in fact the spouse also actually is your relative. It seems to me that actual relationships should always take precedence over “spouse of” relationships, but that’s not the way the new feature works. I think it’s a poor design.

For me, RM10 has been a big step up from RM9. And I say that even though I don’t use the DNA feature or the Health feature which seem to be the big selling points of RM10.

Thanks for the specifics!

Did I also read somewhere that Windows shortcut keys work more “normally” in RM10? This has been particularly frustrating for this long-time keyboard shortcut guy!

What a question! Recently I’ve agreed to purchase a new product release for a discounted price only to experience a significant delay in the actual product release date. NO MORE! In the future, I am going to wait until a product is released even if I need to pay a higher price. This has happened with RM, FTM, and other products. So, in my view, it is not time to move to a new release until the product is available.

RM10 has been available for a while. OP is just asking if the features added to it are worth the upgrade price.

Hey Mark

Also keep in mind that there will be no future updates to RM 9–which is okay as I’ve used other programs without updating…

Besides the DNA, they also added the Health and Medical Tracking ( with some great reports) which is nice if you are interested in this. Here is what RM put out on the new features in RM 10…

  • DNA Match Management: Record and analyze DNA matches, predict relationships, and generate reports using the Leeds method to help organize your genetic genealogy.
  • Health and Medical History Tracking: Document detailed health conditions for individuals with the ability to generate comprehensive family health history reports.
  • Advanced Search Features: Experience powerful new search capabilities, including rules-based searching and dynamic group management for more accurate and flexible data retrieval.
  • Enhanced Data Management Tools: Customize the display of names for different cultures, copy or move facts between individuals, and share facts with multiple people more efficiently.
  • Dynamic Group Features: Quickly refresh and update groups based on new data directly from the main screen without navigating through multiple forms.
  • Simplified User Interface: Enjoy a streamlined interface with improved color coding, easy navigation between color code sets, and enhanced editing features for a more intuitive user experience.
  • Context-Sensitive Help: Access help tailored to the specific screen or function you’re using, with both online and offline options to suit your needs.

They also changed the way a drag and drop works–it has a few glitches that we are just finding out abt BUT one of the perks is that Associations are now included with a drag and drop— there is also a list here of what does and does NOT transfer:
