Import from FamilySearch taking almost a week

Good day everyone,

I’m new to using genealogical software however I’ve been building my familytree online for the last 2 years or so (mostly on Wikitree) and decided that having a ‘localized’ tree might be to my benefit, so I downloaded the Rootsmagic free version and did an Import from FamilySearch but its been 5 days of downloading with approximately ~57 000 people and ~160 000 families and counting (bouncing between 25th - 27th great grandparents/uncles/aunts).

Now I’m wondering when its going to finish up, I’m using a 60 Mbps line but its downloading at 0.1 - 0.3 Mbps speeds and its hardly putting any strain on my notebook (CPU: ~17%, RAM: 1 Gb out of 16 Gb available) is it normal for it to take this long? Also can someone explain in layman’s terms how there can be almost 3 times more families downloaded then people?

Sidenote: My account is brand new on Rootsmagic and somehow Rootsmagic got access to my very old Google account profile picture which I’ve removed long time ago and added it to my profile here… Very confusing on how they got access to the image.

What’s not normal is for the download to last that long. Usually the connection is dropped long by now. Once it drops it cannot be resumed. You can kill the connection at any time and still retain what was already downloaded.

After every 24 hours it requires me to log in again at FamilySearch to continue the download. Every morning I wake up thinking that today is the day that it’s going to be done, I don’t mind waiting just didn’t expect waiting this long and was wondering why its showing so many families in comparison to people?

It just depends on how many generations you selected and how much is on FamilySearch. At this point you are problem on royalty lines and they can be messy.
