How to Reset Treeshare

Hello,

I need some assistance with Treeshare for Ancestry. I deleted my Ancestry tree and created a new one (just me and one other person) which I planned to populate by using Treeshare to upload my RM11 tree. When I tried this, RM is saying it can’t find my tree on Ancestry, which I understand, but I can’t find a way anywhere in RM to reset Treeshare to point it to my new Ancestry tree. How does one go about resetting this? Thanks.

Settings>Web Hints>Disconnect from Ancestry Tree
Then Upload your RM Tree to a new Ancestry Tree or
Download your A* tree to a new RM Tree

The way TreeShare works, you do not create a tiny tree on Ancestry and then connect your RM database to it to get started. Rather, you have no tree on Ancestry and then you tell TreeShare to create a new tree on Ancestry. That will copy your entire RM database to the new tree on Ancestry.

Connecting an existing RM database to an existing Ancestry tree simply isn’t the way it works.

There is a workaround:

  1. Create a new RootsMagic database containing just one person.
  2. Sync this person with Ancestry.
  3. Copy your old RootsMagic database into the new database. You can do this by drag-and-drop; just make sure you have both RootsMagic databases open at the same time.
  4. Merge the original person from your old database with the person you created in the new database.
  5. From that point on, you have full control over which people and data you choose to sync with Ancestry.

The only downside is that, if this is important to you, the original creation date of each record in the old RootsMagic file will be overwritten with a new creation date in the new RootsMagic file.

If you also work with FamilySearch, nothing changes. The FamilySearch ID for each person is carried over to the new database, and matching continues to work as usual.

If you use Color Coding in RootsMagic, you will need to set it up again in the new database.
