I’ve been given a gedcom file with about 16000 names in it and created a RM9 file of them. I’ve been able to match about half of them with FamilySearch. My next step would be to quickly identify (rather than name by name) and make a file of the unmatched names so I can work on them before adding them to FamilySearch. Any ideas on how I can identify these names? I had thought I could make a group but don’t know if it has the criteria for that.
Command Pallet>Groups>New>Create Name>Select Simple>Select People>Mark>By data fields>Select field=FamilySearch ID>Is blank
RM10
Another approach is:
-People List view
-Customize
-Available Fields (highlight FamilySearch ID)
-click Add to View
-FamilySearch ID gets moved to Fields to Display
Now with that customized view, clicking on the column header entitled FamilySearch ID … the sorting for People List view toggles the sorted listing back and forth between blank (no FSID) and those with FSID (not blank)
If I may offer a friendly suggestion: there is nothing wrong with RM’s simple groups, and for decades that’s all we had. They still work fine.
But there is a relatively new feature now called Rules groups. If instead you Select > Rules and make a Rules group, there is an advantage. Namely, if you change things in your database like connecting additional people to FamilySearch, a Rules group can be refreshed to reflect the newly added people. That’s because a Rules group saves the rule you used to create the group and a simple group does not save the rule.
This worked so thank you so much. Now I need to work out how to get rid of the suffix entries as the person who created the file put the individual’s occupation in here and I don’t want that to transfer to FamilySearch.
hi You’ve lost me here with ‘Rules.’ Where do I find that feature? I’ve used RM for years but haven’t utlised the features beyond the basics.
hi I got your way to work as far as identifying who is matched with FS, but then what do I do next to create the group?
You said this…
So, all you do is sort that People List where blank FamilySearch IDs are at the top, then double-click an individual and work on them before adding them to FamilySearch
I failed to notice that you were on RM9. In RM9, it was called Saved Criteria Groups. In RM10, it’s called Rules Groups.
