Getting rid of "Missing Surnames" alerts

I have quite a few people in my databases without surnames - usually the older entries.
In each case I get a problem alert, as I would expect.
I know I can go into each one and say “not a problem”, however, I do have a lot of these.
Here is the issue: removing the checkbox beside “Missing surname” in Problem Options doesn’t seem to have any effect at all - the names without surnames still give a problem alert. Even adding a new person as forename only will show the alert.
In other words, the checkbox in Problem Options does not seem to work as I am expecting it to.
Please tell me if I’m doing something wrong here as this is bugging me.

Problem Options does not turn off alerts throughout the database. It turns off search options WITHIN Problem Search Tool (to filter out searches you’re not focusing on at that time). Same with choosing Not A Problem, I believe.

Think you have to say NOT a problem to those already listed as a problem and then turn off without surnames ( and any others that bug you).

Under the wrench and screw driver, you will see NOT a problem list–click on that and clean your list up from there— then turn off your options and it should NOT show again until you turn it back on…

Make sure to do a backup 1st and after done make sure to back it up again to save your changes.

Thanks but although I certainly I know that I can say Not a Problem to individual people, what I am trying to indicate is that in the “Not A Problem” list, clicking the option to turn off surnames just DOES NOT WORK. In any way. Either for those that have already been entered (and that I have not said Not a Problem to) or any new people entered. Try it yourself and let me know if it works for you. If so, I’m doing something wrong. If it doesn’t, it’s an RM error.

Problem Alerts that appear on the person are under Settings, General Settings, Problem Options. There you can check the box to not include surnames. The Problem List is run separately. They are on the People page under Tools (wrench) menu, Problem List. That setting just controls what you are looking for when you run the Problem List.

Aha! I see now. It was me all along. I hadn’t realised that there are two separate and independent issues in play here.

Thanks Renee
