GEDCOM file import

I’ve just invested in Roots Magic 10 and have imported my first family file created with Generations. It was clear when I checked the imported details that the text that related to Probate entries had not been imported. On each record where a probate should have appeared only the citation “Probate Calendars” with no text appeared.

As a check, I imported the same GEDCOM file into “webtrees” and “Legacy 10” and both programs displayed the source and citation correctly. Over the years I have exported GEDCOM files to most family programs but have never become aware of this issue.

Anyone any idea what is going wrong with my import from Generations and how I might remedy the issue?

Open a support ticket with the GEDCOM file and we will take a look.

Since it worked importing to Legacy 10, try to Import that database into RM.

You will need the 32-bit version of RM to do this.

File>Create New RM File>Import From (if you see Legacy you select it - IF that option isn’t there, you will need to install the 32-bit version)

I created a GEDCOM file in Legacy 10 and imported that into Roots Magic 10. Checked five records with probate entries and they show the full and correct information.

It would appear that Legacy performs some conversion to a GEDCOM file during the import process, probably in an attempt to deal with incompatibilities with older software programs. I had already imported a GEDCOM file from webtrees but is was not as complete at the Legacy file imported to Rots Magic.

Thanks for the suggestion.
