I have tried to import my Ancestry gedcom with Chrome and Edge. I am able to see the zip file. I click it and see the .ged file. When I start the import, the *.ged is not visible.
I’ve looked at videos on YouTube, googled, etc. HELP!!! Can anyone help me?
You’ll need to drag (or extract with a program) that .GED file OUT of the compressed .ZIP to the same or a different folder and then import that from within RM (can’t double-click a .GED file to auto-import or anything).
There are some programs that can accept ZIP files (also often part of GEDCOM 7)
At this time I believe RM (all current versions) can only accept NON ZIP files – you need to extract FIRST, then IMPORT after you have extracted the GED(com) file.
Instead of using an Ancestry GEDCOM you could download the Ancestry tree using Ancestry TreeShare inside RM. Then you will get the media too. Create a new database and select to “Download from an Online Tree”.
