I just want to upload a new file to Ancestry. I have tried several times and failed. My last attempt killed my internet connection - I had to reboot my router and run a troubleshooter to get it back. What I did: I disconnected the tree from Ancestry because it was trying to connect to a tree it wasn’t associated with. Then I "Export Data > Ancestry (upload a file to Ancestry) and choose the file; name the new file and start the process. It gets a little green slice on “uploading media files” which is the first step in the upload and then it says “Ancestry is not responding” and it keeps retrying but also keeps saying there’s no internet connection. I uploaded before (months ago) and it worked fine. I have 2 accounts, one with a paid script; one with just a “guest” account. I tried both. It did the same thing with both accounts. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong? Thanks for “listening.”
Hello
First you did not mention what version of RM you are using, nor what OS (PC or MAC).
review here if you have not
Not exactly sure what you mean “killed” internet. Are you using any security software? Also have you successfully used treeshare in past?
Sorry for my omissions in my original post. I am using RM9 to tree share; I have actually used tree share in the past successfully. Internet connection was lost each time I tried to tree share until it just didn’t come on at all. (My internet does not connect automatically - I have to connect manually). I had to reset my modem in order to reconnect the internet. This was a small file of 577 people and less than that number of sources and media. When I tried to upload, the system was processing the media files first. And I never got past them. Oh - I use a PC not a MAC.
What kind of internet service/connection are you using?
Not sure I understand you need to connect manually (like dialup?)
Kevin
I have the option of connecting automatically to the internet when I boot up my laptop. I don’t always want or need to connect to the internet so when I’m ready, I connect manually. It then stays connected until I disconnect manually or shut off my laptop.
so you use airplane mode or turn off wifi. If wifi is on (and modem/router) any devices would be connected – was trying to rule that out as a possibility
If “something” is telling you “no connection” than it seem either security software is blocking or you are not really connected. Are other devices connected to internet? (Firestick, or doorbell cameras for example)
It’s not airplane mode. I just don’t automatically connect to the internet. No other connections. ANCESTRY is telling me there is no connection. When I look at the icon, I am still connected and Ancestry attempts to upload again. After several failed attempts Ancestry terminates the upload and the internet is disconnected. There is no firestick, doorbell or camera connected. No security software blocking it. I have seen in the User’s forum that the Cloudstrike software update failure created problems for Ancestry and they were still working through them. I’ll try again in a few days. I can skip the media files and reconnect them to the file later. Thanks for your help.
My questions about other devices was to determine if you router / modem was may be having issues. Nothing you have said indicates Root Magic is the cause. The best suggestion I can give you is to contact RootMagic support. Occasionally Ancestry does have hiccups normally that is temporary
