Error Message when opening a file in RM 11

Just opened up two of my databases after installing RM 11 and I am getting an Error message. The files open, but I’m not sure why I’m getting this message. Any clues?

Sorry to post to my own post, but I’m also getting a “Runtime error 217 at 000000000043529A” when I initially open the program itself.

First, make sure you are opening RM and then the database. Not by clicking on the database file outside of the program.

Second, make sure you’re not double-clicking on the RM icon in the taskbar to open the program. It only needs a single click to open.

One user reported reinstalling cleared that issue. (using original download )
Curious did you change 32 to 64 versions (or vice a versa) from previous RM?

Sorry I was unable to get back to everyone last evening. It appears that Kevync1985 hit on the answer. I had indeed chosen the 64 bit download instead of the 32 bit that I should have. I have now uninstalled the 64 bit and downloaded and installed the 32 bit and now everything is running just fine. So far no new error messages. Thank you to all who came to my aid.

I am receiving SQLite Error 14 - unable to open Database file. Is this a firewall issue or possibly related to the 32/64 bit version download problem?

first close RM - re-open and run all Database tools.

I think the last time I saw/heard of that issue was RM9. Almost make sure the file location (Folder/file) is not being access by cloud storage when using RM (such as One Drive).

Thanks! I do remember having a firewall file access issue with RM9. I am moving all of the RM database files to the C:\ProgramData\RootsMagic\Version 11 folder and will try the RM Database tools sequence, too.

I also got the access violation message when opening RM11 after installing the 64bit version. I didn’t get it until after setting the default locations and converting one database. I also had the 64 bit version of RM10, which really shouldn’t make a difference. Shutting down RM and reopening produced the AV again. I reinstalled the program from the original download and it appears to be working correctly now, no AV on opening.

Having had the same access violation message on my win11 64bit RM11, I tried the re-install as well as running all the dB tools, with some success. This lasted an hour while working on RM, but now the message is back. Definitely an issue with the 64bit programme!!

The same problem is also being tracked in this thread and it’s been reported that the access violation issues get resolved with the 32 bit app.

Thanks Kevin, I was trying to avoid changing to 32bit, so will see how RM address this issue.
