Usually you have initials of person or you could say “Dau of J.S.” if that is all you know.
There are many ways – try to be consistent and do what makes sense to you would be my advise
I add exactly what the match name is on the DNA Test. I also put all DNA Matches into a group as I add them. Those in a single tree are color coded gray.
If by chance an email address is provided for the match, it is sometimes possible to determine more of the person’s actual name (GEDmatch gives emails).
thanks. I think I’m going to focus on rebuilding my tree since I’m entering it all manually versus gedcom, then I’ll get back to DNA and rethink this. Seems like if I enter them without knowing who they are, I might be creating double work for myself.
let me rephrase. How do you know WHERE you found the “Screen Name:
Many people (for the record, not me) use a different screen name for different services - i.e. they may have one screen name on Ancestry, another for MyHeritage and so on.
I look on the providers DNA matches for me and the name they are using there. I wouldn’t know they are not the same person if they use a different name on another site, so they could be listed more than once in my database. The DNA Matches in RM lets me add the provider, like Ancestry.
