I have just started using the DNA feature in RM10. Apparently have multiple issues.
I have entered several matches but they do not show up in the Edit side bar as they do in the video. Instead I actually have to go into “Edit” and click the DNA icon to see the matches. What am I missing? If I attempt to edit facts there is no fact for DNA matches.
Also when in the DNA feature and I look at the Shared Matches they are all there - but if I click on the boxes that I know definitely show as Shared Matches on Ancestry, they never appear - not even with my half-sister and an uncle. The Video infers this is supposed to happen automatically if the box is checked as does the note at the top of the Shared DNA Matches page. It doesn’t happen. Does each match have to be entered separately?
Advice appreciated.
Yes, each DNA Match needs to be entered separately on the Edit Person screen’s DNA tab.
Then why does it say at the top the following: “Non-Bold names are potential shared matches. Check any that really are shared matches and RootsMagic will automatically create the necessary DNA match records.”
If by Edit side bar you mean the Edit person screen, the video references DNA Matches that were entered in an earlier version using the fact type Association>DNA Match. These associations were converted to the newer DNA Match feature in RM10. I did not use the Associates fact as I had created my own custom DNA Match fact, so I have been manually entering my matches.
As to the use of the “Shared DNA Matches,” you might want to give more background on your process. Are you hitting the “save” button in the upper right corner after checking the shared matches?
that’s exactly what I was missing… Thanks!
Now I wish there was an available automatic Fact as birth, death, etc… rather than re-entering the same data by hand for a match to show on the Edit panel.
