Easy way to copy a saved search from one data file to another

Copy a saved Advanced Search from one database to another

  1. Open both database files
    a. Make sure they have different theme colors, so they are easy to identify.
  2. Click Search on the file that has the search you want to transfer.
  3. Select Advances Search, then Saved searches.
  4. Select the search you want to copy, then click Do Search.
  5. Go to the other Tree and open Advance Search.
  6. Select Saved Searches and click New.
  7. Click OK and give the search a Name.
  8. You now have the search saved on the other tree.

Cool.

is there to do this for Saved Group (that use adv search)

If you copy the search to a different data file and then run the search. You can then save that search results to a group.

I was referring to if you created a group without using SAVED SEARCHES.

Most of my groups were created without any saved searches – meaning I created the groups directly

There isn’t a way to copy the criteria of how a group was created. I wish there was.

Oh thanks – I was hoping I missed that – so always best to create saved search then group.

(at least for now)

Thanks

Yes, that is what I’m doing now. That way you have the best of both worlds. However, groups are using the new rules for creating a search or group. You can update a group and then do a search using the group input feature and save or print from there.

If you start from a search and save it to a group then you have more flexibility. I’m going into my groups and doing a screenshot of how the group was build then creating it as a new search.

Change is good but leads to more work sometimes.
