In Couples view, I have four instances of duplicate couples - the same Father, Mother, Marr Date and Marr Place as shown below.
In Person View, there is only one of each of the persons in these couples.
Why would this be and how can I correct?
Duplicate Marriage facts will cause this. Might You have innocently added a Marriage fact to each member of a couple into their own Edit Person window… thinking that would complete a single Marriage fact? That would make two Marriage facts.
It’s hard to be sure without a bit more information, but from the symptoms you describe the mostly likely problem is that the spouses have been linked to each other twice. RM usually prevents that from happening, but it can happen sometimes anyway. For example, it can happen if you had both the husband and wife in your database twice and of you merged the two instances of the husband and the two instances of the wife.
The additional information I would want to see to be sure would be to see how many spouses the husband has and how many spouses the wife has. Here’s an example. I’m expecting to see 2 spouses in your case. It it’s 1 spouse in your case, then I’m really puzzled.
I would also want to look at one of the spouses in the primary position of Descendant set to 2 generations. In my example, there are two different spouses. In your case, I’m expecting to see two spouses, both of whom are the same person.
If my theory is not correct, then I’m out of ideas. If my theory is correct, then you need to do an Unlink. Be sure you have a backup. Right click one of the instances of the spouse in Descendant View => Unlink => From spouse.
One more thing to look at before the Unlink is to look at the Marriage fact. I expect to see two Marriage facts. The Unlink will correctly lose one of the Marriage facts. So I would try to make them both the same. If there is only one Marriage fact, your Unlink might or might not lose it. In that case, be prepared to put the Marriage fact back after the Unlink. Good luck. I apologize if my theory is not correct, but I think it is.
Thank you for the quick responses. I am always impressed and pleased with the knowledge, expertise, and desire to help.
I had duplicate marriage facts for these - all cleaned up now.
Thank you!
