Copying citation to another file not working

I am copying some individuals from one RM9 database to a different database, also RM9. I am copying the same person from one RM9 file to another RM9 file. The person copied okay, I think. I am trying to copy the marriage source and citation but it doesn’t seem to be working right. I “memorize” the source/citation (like I have before) and then put it in the other DB and “paste” it. Except it is NOT the source/citation I “memorized.” It is a different one from another person - this is one I want to copy:

This is one that gets copied - every time.

Not sure whether I’m doing something wrong or not. It has never done this before. Thank you for your help. And I hope I cut and pasted these right.

I’m pretty sure it’s working as designed. I think the memorize/paste of a citation only works within a single database. The memorize/paste process for citations does not use the Windows/Mac clipboard. The paste in the second database was using the most recent memorize you did in the second database.

One way around the problem would be to drag and drop one person who has the desired citation in the first database to the second base. Then memorize the citation from that person in the second database and paste it where it’s needed in the second database. When you are done with all the pasting you need to do with that citation, then delete the person from the second database that you copied from the first database.

I may be misunderstanding your process. You may have already dragged and dropped the person who had the citation from your first database to your second database. If so, the solution is much simpler. Simply do both the memorize of the citation and the paste of the citation in the second database. If this is your process, no delete of the person is required because you wanted the person to be in the second database.

Memorize and pasting sources is specific to the database and does not work across databases.

To have a family fact survive drag n drop you need to include both individuals. Select Descendant and spouse for 1 generation to include someone’s spouse. You would need to merge if they are already in the database.

When I added the guy from one to the other DB his sources did too, EXCEPT for the marriage source and that is the one that keeps deferring to the death source of someone else. I have since added guy’s spouse by drag and drop and her sources came too EXCEPT for the marriage source. If I am reading things right, I should drag and drop BOTH husband and wife to new DB and then marriage source will come too? I have a difficult time trying to figure out how many people I need to transfer over. These folks have about 10 children and I want to copy them too, but I think its too late to do that with the parents and it will be just copying 10 kids from one DB to the other. I’m okay with that if it means I won’t have to go through and fix duplicates.

Both databases are open in the same instance of RM, so it doesn’t have to work not work) this way.
Saying that the “memorized source” doesn’t use windows clipboard is not relevant, since the copy is still within the same app.

Yes, both individuals need to be included in the drag n drop in order for the marriage (family fact) to come with them, which includes their source citation.

Thank you! Another question. Guy and wife to be dragged and dropped to DB2 have 10 children. I always mess this up. How many descendants do I need to drag/drop to get their children to the new DB? In this case the children don’t have spouses, but in other instances, they do. Is it possible to drag/drop the children with the parents? Or do they need to be done individually after the Guy and wife have been drag/dropped. Thanks for helping me understand this.

Well, for OP, their Version 9 would not receive any update.

Thanks, everyone, for your help. I will back up both files before I start dragging/dropping and hopefully, I won’t mess it up. But if I do, I can reload the backup(s). Cheers!

Grab parent and 1 gen desc.

You could create a temp database and check the results first.

On more thought, it’s a bit more complicated than just copying the citation from one DB to the other. The citation’s source and it’s attachments and the citation’s attachments also need to be copied.
So I retract my cavalier comment.

If you drag and drop a person who has the citation, then all those issues are taken care of automatically. Then memorize and paste the citation, and then delete the person you dragged and dropped.

An ideal feature upgrade would be consolidation of Drag’n’Drop, File Compare and Merging w/ the help of Criteria selection/marking.
