I followed the instructions for the installation of RM11, and everything seemed to go well. When asked if I wanted to convert the RM 10 database to RM 11, I agreed. However, when I opened what I thought was the converted database, it was empty. There was an error message during the conversion concerning the caption on a photograph in the RM 10 database; no explanation of what it was.
This leads to two questions: 1) where is the converted file? 2) how do I access the photo with the corrupted caption–RM10 was deleted as part of the RM11 installation.
in the same location it was for RM10, i believe, unless you selected a different new folder
in the same location it was for RM10 ~ uninstalling RM10 leaves all files in their current folders ~ however the PlaceName database typically gets uninstalled and re-downloading PlaceDB installer from the RM 11 download area and installing may be required.
The only thing I would add is to restore your RM10 database using RM10. You can restore an RM10 database using RM11. But if you do, it will immediately convert it to RM11. That’s something you want to avoid. After the restore is successful, follow the rest of MadDog’s directions to create new RM11 folders, copy your RM 10 database to the RM11 folders, and do your RM11 work there.
Ok. I have followed your instructions as best I can; however, when I open the database in RM11, it appears to be in the same format as it was under RM10. How do I convert the RM10 database to RM11? Is there a Tool that will do that? When I first installed RM11, I got a dialog box that said that I should convert the RM10 database before proceeding, and I followed that route, but with the same result. Do I have to re-install 10 to do the restore?
The media error has sorted itself out. there was no path set to the media folder.
When you open the RM10 database the first time in RM11 it automatically converts the database from RM10 to RM11. There is no tool.
The data remains unchanged. You can’t tell the database has been converted by looking at the data. But there are differences in many of the screens, and you should be able to notice the difference in the screens.
