I have one database with about 16000 people. Within the database I have several separate trees with people whom I have identified as proven DNA connections. I have started to use a separate colour code for each DNA family where I have no identified connection. When I create a gedcom file using a colour code as the data selection (e.g. red) I have fewer people marked when compared to the actual number of people in the tree. This can range between 20 and 50 missing people. I suspect that this is due to second spouses where they have not been correctly colour coded.
How do I find the missing people without going through my database on a line by line basis?
When color coding make sure to use the option “People selected from a list”. Highlight a person in the tree, click on Mark, and select “Everyone in highlighted person’s tree”. That will get any extra spouses, etc. that you may have missed.
You can also create a group or color code anyone not in your main tree. You first use Mark and select “Everyone in File, next highlight someone in your main tree and click UnMark. Select “Everyone in highlighted person’s tree”. This will leave you with all those unconnected trees.
If I understand your question correctly, I think you could find your missing people with the assistance of using more than one color set.
I’m guessing you are using color set 1 because that’s the default. So let’s suppose you have three DNA families in color set 1 - red for one DNA family, green for one DNA family, and blue for one DNA family. So go to one person in each DNA family and color code them a second time in color set 2. This time, instead of color coding by DNA, color code them by being in the same tree. You can use the same colors in both color sets.
You really can’t see both color sets on the screen at the same time. But having color coded as I described, you should be able to do an Advanced Search something like the following.
Color Code > Set 2 > Is Red
AND Color Code > Set 1 > Is Not Red
That should find the people who are in the tree but who are not color coded in the DNA family.
To color code by tree, color code and choose the People selected from list option. Highlight a person in a tree of interest. Click the Mark button, and choose the option Everyone in highlighted person’s tree.
Many thanks for your solutions. Problem now solved using the colour coding being in the same tree. I’ll have to play around with thejerrybryan suggestion to see what I can do with it as I have only used set 1 for the colour coding.
