Children missing from narrative report

I just did a 100-page descendant narrative report and noticed that there are two or three families that are missing their children. They may be enumerated but their names are missing. The rest of the report is fine.

Not much info to help you out.

Do they show up with a smaller descendant selection (grandparents)?

Are they marked as Private?

I always found working from smaller to larger is best. If correct results are in smaller, then move up a generation, etc.

Hope you didn’t print the 100 pages

Try checkmarking New page for generations>Start each generation on a new page to possibly coax those names out of the narrative.

This type report relies on those children having Facts entered that trigger the Fact sentence templates to flesh out the narrative. If there are no Fact sentences defined, there should be a message to that effect within the text -or- if the folks have no birth/death/etc. facts they will not be accompanied by any sentences -or- Paragraphs>Keep fact sentences in same paragraph (the default) is chosen… they might blend in.

Try changing Paragraphs>New paragraph after… option to separate/flush out of the blended text.

If there is still a reproducible error. Go to RootsMagic website, open a support request ticket and share your database along with a failure explanation.

Gee, thanks for being helpful, but I don’t understand what you said. The report is 12 generations long. Everyone shows up on the home family screen.

Then I create a narrative report, and everyone shows up as they should except for two or three sets of parents. Their names show up and beneath them the numbers of their children show up but their names and dates are missing. So it looks like this:

Robert and Patience (Hinman) Durkee had the following children:

i.
ii.
iii.
iv.

So my question is…why are their names and dates missing on the narrative report? No, they are not marked private. I have been using RM ever since it first came out, and I recall this happening once many years ago, but I don’t recall how this was resolved.

Thanks, Kevin. I did wonder if it had to do with “facts.” Ok, I will go back to the fact templates and see what I can do. I do not like seeing facts show as " Robert Durkee.was born" when there is no date or place known. I will see what I can do. I recall having this issue decades ago and having resolved it.

It is working. I entered birth facts by entering ?. All the missing names are now there in the narrative report.

Thanks,

Karen

If the person has no facts there won’t be a sentence generated. On the narrative report setting there is a sentence template field for that condition. This is what should be there by default.

[person] was born (date unknown).

You can write whatever you want but make sure it at least has [person] in it.

Many thanks, Renee.
